Alternate title: American realizes they didn't abolish slavery after all

German here to the Sunday everything is closed thing.
As a kid Sundays always was the best day in week because both parents where at home, having breakfast together without any hurry. Then we drive to a wooded area for a walk or (my favorite one) we visited my grandparents and meet basically the whole family (because everyone has a free day) having special food or BBQ and we kids all played together the whole day. This family gathering happened at least once a month.
To give up this just for some already disgustingly rich people to get more money sounds dystopian for me.
A lot of politicians tryed to change this over the last decades but they got bashed by the unions and work councils (and the voters of course) every time.
Every time I see a video like this I am sooo glad and thankfull that I was born in Germany

Germany here. Nothing is insane, these are human rights !!! And don't tell me that America is the best country all over the world. At many points America is a third-world-country in comparison to other countries. And don't forget that many generation of European workers, the working class movement and the trade unions fought for these rights. If you want them you also have to fight for it.

Vacation/holidays are like sleep. You just can't survive without it.

A German here, I have been sick for almost 70 weeks now because I had 3 serious knee surgeries and I work as a mechanic. Man must say the system intervenes well under the arms and therefore I can stay in the same company and hopefully soon continue working without great costs because the health insurance covers almost everything. You don't know how to appreciate something like that until you see how it is in other countries. In America I might have ended up on the street without money

... and now you know why " Made in Germany" is a high quality product.
Every worker has rights !

In USA, they let you pray to the flag instead and call it "freedom", when they throw you into legal slavery.

German here . I am a caretaker so I works on sundays   and bankholidays.  For sundays works I get 35% in top  and in Bank holidays 135% on top  taxfree

You still live in Finland, right? If so, please inform yourself: Most of the things mentioned in the video also apply in Finland in one form or another. For example, you also get your days back when you get sick during vacation.

I live in Germany—and I spent the first 26 years of my life in Belgium and worked in the Netherlands for several years. Most of what is mentioned in the video applies, in one form or another, to every country in Europe.
Most Europeans view American labor laws and health insurance as exploitative.

If you are sick in germany, you may do things in that time as normal as possible, BUT its forbidden for them to interfere with the recovery. Idealy the Doctor agrees to the activity and writes it down in your documentation, some doctors even recommend some acitivity, when its proven to help the recovery. For example, if you have a serious Lung-infection and you are planning to take a small vacation to the Sea, the Doctor may even explicably recommend that idea, or he may even say that is no vacation but a medically nessesary action (in German we say "jemanden zur Kur schicken", normally even paid by the health insurance, when you go to a specialied Health Resort).

And please keep in mind: you have not to save money for the education of the children: universities are for free 😂

Regarding parental leave:
Both parents are each entitled to 3 years of parental leave, which means a total of 6 years between them, or they can take up to 3 years at the same time, or a combination of both, depending on their preference.
During 14 months (for both parents combined) of that period, you receive parental benefits. These can also be divided in various ways, but explaining that in detail would go beyond the scope of this discussion.

It is the US that hasn't cought up, not "the rest of the world". The rest of the Western World has similar standards.

Somehow it's strange that an american thinks it's strange to have a vacation on sunday. This law is rooted less in labor rights, but in christian heritage, as in Exodus 34:21 it's said "Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest. In plowing time and in harvest you shall rest." Though nowadays most people don't think about sundays that way, I think.

These ”benefits ” or laws have been fought for!!! Not GIVEN! If the US wants to follow you need to fight for these rights!!!

What will really blow your mind, is that most of that is not specific to germany, but almost the same throughout most parts of europe (central, west, western parts of east)

"i don't see how this video is gonna blew my mind"... after the second info "wow... i've never think in this way... wow!" adorable =D

I live in Germany, all of these are true and normalized here. This video and your reaction made me appreciate it more. Its so normal. The only thing I didnt know was the being sick during holiday thing.
