If you think this is terrible just wait until you see Halloween ends

I’m so glad you gave H4 some well deserved recognition

Man, DGG really fucked these films up. I couldn't believe they hired him in the first place let alone the other writers.

One thing I will say is that I hate what I refer to as the "Marvelization" of Horror I've noticed recently. With stuff like Halloween, It part 2, and more. The quirky, quippy, humor thrown into a movie to lighten the tension.
I just remember every throwaway character in this movie has a line of dialogue to make them SO HECCIN RELATABLE haha Reddit!!

The whole damn hospital scene where everybody's trampling over each other looks like a bad black friday commercial for K-mart!

"Let him take my head as I take his" wtf?! Mutual decapitation! Absolute nonsense!

Honestly, hearing your rewrite of the opening makes me upset that this film doesn't have the courtesy to let people get absorbed into the visual storytelling. Like, the lack of dialogue and Michael's apathetic body language feels more atmospheric and terrifying than 2 irrelevant cops babbling about Michael's backstory and getting into a pointless tussle with him later on.

I think that the point on simplicity is an amazing one. I remember after seeing Halloween 2018, I was so disappointed at the ending of the film. I was all in for 90%, but the ending reminded me that it is so few and far between that Hollywood produces a good slasher these days. Most films have become sequel bait, no need to tell a consistent and concise story, when you can turn your reboot into the next MCU!

The best thing that this movie does is make Michael Myers into The Terminator. I wonder if anyone at Dark Horse Comics would have thought of that.

one of the stupidest thing in this movie is the fact that none of the mob knows what michael looks like. having done what he had done that night and in 1978, his picture would be all over the news.  (even if the audience doesn't know his face, the community in haddonfield would).  Instead they hunt down a short fat guy that couldn't possibly be him.

It would have WORKED if they made Halloween Kills in 2019, with the town looking at the 3 women like psychos because they “act” like nothing is wrong. In reality, they’ve doubled their paranoia and have built a second fortress on the same neighborhood as the Myers house, which still keeps the “renovated into an upscale home” idea and the same couple. When Michael returns, the only “Legacy” character to re enter would be Lonnie, who’d give a proper redemption arc and fight against Michael before dying with his son.

Excluding Lindsey, Tommy, and Marion until Halloween Ends, where Michael kills one of the 3 women, and a few of the “Legacies” along with new characters, therefore making the ending and Michael’s death impactful. It’s revenge, survival, and teamwork.

I know I commented but there is one character this movie gets right: Michael, himself

Unlike Halloween 2 (of which this movies suffers the same problems like taking place on the same night) that completely diminishes Michael’s menace by suddenly retconning his immortality from the first film, this movie builds it all back up

I do admit I was pumped to see Michael in action in the next movie and the final showdown between Michael and Laurie

And then we got Ends which was totally irrelevant 😔

I liked the firefighters attempting to fight Micheal scene and the kill where he made the lady fall on her own bullet, thats about it. Ends was even worse somehow.

What are your thoughts on halloween ends? I hated how the third act came out of nowhere without any build up. The pacing was bad and the story... what a mess.

The general idea was there, the map was laid out for them, they just got really lost somewhere along the way

You know I more I analysis these new films, the more I appreciate the original

This film could have actually been called "Nostalgia Bait". It's a horrendous disappointing mess and I'm happy that you acknowledge that fact.

Love that I’m not the only one who thought this film was a huge disappointment. The dialogue was by far the worst thing about it

Another great watch !

After seeing Halloween Ends…..the only movie in this trilogy I legitimately liked was Halloween 2018.

This movie is tolerable but the worlds most frustrating watch ever and Halloween Ends is barely even a Halloween movie.

(Also the best sequel is Halloween 4 but that’s a no brainer)

Crazy thing is the lady from Halloween 2018 actually survived that……somehow.

Funny story when I heard a character named Lonnie was returning, I literally had to look who that was because my immediate question “who the hell is Lonnie?”…….turns out it’s just that bratty kid from the original that had like 2 scenes…….yeah that’s this movie’s idea of a legacy character.
