Rebetzin Machlis was a powerhouse of a lady, ever did she force her kids to cooperate with hosting so many guests, she took it on herself completely, I was crying when I read how she died from cancer, it was devastating to read. May her holy soul continue to go higher and higher! I always wanted to hear from her husband, this interview was a real treat! I enjoyed every minute!

As a seminary student in the 1990s, we ate Fri night dinner by the Machlis's many times, and i knew all of their 14 kids.

When I was in college I spent six weeks in Israel on an archeological dig. The first week we were in Jerusalem and allowed to be tourists. I ended up spending time at Aish haTorah. For Shabbat we were hosted by an Orthodox family in Jerusalem. I still remember their hospitality and the great feeling I got walking in the old city on Shabbat nite....

I read there story, there was a book written on Henny Machlis life, I was so blown away, what a family! Abraham and Sara avinu of our times!! Absolutely incredible story, incredible people!! So blessed to have them part of our nation!!

Aside from all he does, I have been blown away by Rabbi Machlis's greatness every time I heard him speak. He always comes across as so humble. I'm so surprised that he agreed to this interview, and to speaking about himself

I was in BMT in 1996 when he was a Rebbe and I lived in Maalot Dafna in the 2000s across the street from their apartment.. His wife was superwoman. They don't make people like them very often..

The Rebbitzin was a massive Tzaddekes and besides being just one of the tens of thousands who would frequent their house, I was extremely close to the entire family and lived just across tiny alley and love them all. May Hashem bless them all!

I showed up with 20 Spanish speaking Mexicanoz & he not only attended us but gave me his, Rabbi Mordecai Machils' chair 🪑, from where he was speaking. Something very heartfelt, to me, until now.

I came to their house when I was single with a friend , it was simchat Torah, and I was trying to find a meal by Jeff seidel and it was pretty last minute , and in the end he said maybe try machlis... And we ended up walking their from the kotel, I was tomato red when we got there , not knowing they hosted openly like this , I thought we were crashing a family meal causally , and when I walked in I saw the Rebetzin a"h , and then as she was standing up I said I'm so sorry about just walking in like this.. and she says to me , I was Waiting for you!!! And she hugged me and welcomed me, and then when we made kiddish ( me +45-60 ppl) or more , we sat down and her son brought the washing cup to our tables to wash and we didn't have simple food it was course after course ... And we felt at home , and then Rabbi Machlis 120+ gave a dvar Torah and opened the floor for whoever wanted to discuss comment or add . Ppl who walked from the chermon who I'm not even sure we're jewish walked in and we're welcomed and sat down and felt at home as if it was their second home.

I had the blessed privilege of eating over 100 Shabbat mealz with the Beloved Machlis Family. My heart is still swollen with gratitude from their hospitable, loving kindness.
