Thank you for watching.
Who would have thought a climb like this would put their life at risk?
July 2024, Mt. Kiso-Komagatake.
Mr. A, in his 50s, attempted his first mountain climb over 2,000 meters.
Rain, fog, and a lack of a map led him astray.
He encountered a kind family, called for rescue, and used cutting-edge systems to launch a search.
However, bad weather and poor judgment altered his fate.
As I explain, there are various theories about the background and details of the accident, and interpretations may differ depending on your perspective. Please note that some parts have been edited and condensed for clarity.
▼ Lessons to learn from this video
◾︎The thought "I've come all this way" can lead to poor judgment.
When climbing mountains, the courage to turn back can save your life. Even a "little bit closer" can be fatal.
◾︎Going it alone is risky.
If he had been accompanied, he might have been able to make calmer decisions and receive help. Solo climbing is especially dangerous in bad weather.
◾︎Lack of preparation can be life-threatening
Even minor oversights, like not saving an offline map or having a wet paper map, can lead to disaster.
◾︎Even the latest technology can be effective if used properly.
Video reporting systems are effective, but they are meaningless if the basic principle of "waiting in place" is not followed.
◾︎Human connections can sometimes save the day
The families I met along the way, and the veteran guide who ultimately saved my life, teach me the importance of "connections" in mountain climbing.
