I raised a praying mantis to catch different types of its natural prey.

Along the way I break down mantis anatomy, strike speed, prey drive, and how raptorial forelegs work. If you love nature documentaries, insect husbandry, predator and prey content, or unusual animal experiments, this one is for you.

As someone who spends a lot of time filming fish and aquariums. I honestly didn't think a praying mantis could do this. Nature keeps surprising me! 🦗🎣

Never seen a mantid eat aquatic prey before and this was so cool! I find it so trippy how it was lightly tapping the surface of the water, not only to calculate a precision strike but to attract its prey, so cool!

The mealworm “larva” is actually a pupa, and thank goodness the two mantises together in one box didn’t have cannibalism

4:12 mantis's and all other predatory animals don't care about whats humane or not. But eating the head first makes the prey stop moving. To me that makes sense because the prey is less likely to attack back.

Confucius say: Give mantis a fish, and it eat for day. Teach mantis to fish, and it eat for lifetime!

I am fairly sure that a mantis ate my tadpoles, last year. They were big guys, too. I had hatched them in a bucket, from a puddle that was nearly evaporated, on my farm. One day they were all just gone, but a preying mantis was perched on the edge of the bucket.

Praying mantis are so incredibly smart I wish they lived longer they’re such awesome insects I rescued one one time and it stole Wendy’s chicken nugget from me

Cool! You should feature more videos with your mantises!

Also, that isn't a Chinese mantis. That's a giant Asian mantis. The seller might have misidentified them.
