I didn't like any of the hitch options for the 944, so I made something custom. Now I can carry bikes with the Porsche and I don't have to drive the Land Rover to the trail head.

That is incredible. If I had the tools and skill I would be doing the same right now.

This is so cool.. I have a 986 Boxster and have been trying to figure out how to carry my mountain bike on it. They made a factory roof rack system but they are nearly impossible to find and expensive if you can find one.

Dude fantastic job and thank you a ton for sharing this....will be doing this as well God Willing....make sure you replace the fuel lines with something that can't catch on fire....a TON of 944's go up in flames....and google for the other causes too....I forget the other cause, but has to do with clutch line or brake line I believe....it can burst and catch on fire since under high pressure and by exhaust as well.

Very cool I was considering building my own as well for my 924s, but I want haul a very small trailer so can take my Rally Tires with me to Rally-X events. Nice work

We must share a taste in cars! I used to own a 1989 944 S2 and currently own a 1994 Discovery 1 ES V8i.

That's a cool solution for a great car. What are the rules for having a rack blocking the licence plate and lights? In the UK it's illegal to block them so you'd have to have an auxillary light panel and plate on the outside of the rack

You could have had the reinforced end of the hitch on the inside of the bumper

I’m in the middle of making a receiver for my 944 but I’m worried that the bike will stand too high above the roof of the car when it’s on the rack, how does your feel? I may try to find a rack the either comes straight out of the hitch, or goes down a couple inches instead of up a foot like most do
