Bogotá didn’t suddenly become twice as expensive. But if you live on dollars, it can definitely feel that way.
Last year, my monthly cost of living in Bogotá was around $1,587. This time, using my actual spending from the last 30 days, the same lifestyle comes out much higher in dollars — and a big part of that has nothing to do with inflation. It’s the exchange rate.
In this video, I break down my real monthly expenses: rent, utilities, groceries, Rappi, health care, Uber, personal services, streaming and more.
I also show exactly how the same 7.28 million pesos can equal about $1,800, $2,250 or even $2,450 depending on the exchange rate.
And yes… I also discovered I may have a Rappi Turbo problem. 😄 My food spending jumped, and that part definitely wasn’t the peso’s fault.
So is Bogotá still worth it?
For me, yes. But the lesson is simple: if you’re planning to live in Colombia on dollars, you can’t build your budget around one exchange rate.
Tell me in the comments: if you live abroad on dollars, what exchange rate do you budget for?
