Ranking EVERY Mount in Minecraft!

Odyssey Central

The Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem Drop is only a few weeks away, but that got me looking at just how many mounts we currently have. Including the new additions in the update there are 23 entities in Minecraft Java Edition that can be considered rideable. This is stuff like the horse, minecart nautilus, happy ghast, and so on. With so many mounts, some were bound to be worse than others, so today I thought it would be fun to rank them all from the worst to the best! This is being recorded before the full 1.21.11 update release, so some small things may change but it appears that they are done with new features!

Fun fact, on Bedrock edition, there was a bug a few years ago that made it so when horses bred with speed buffs, those speed buffs would be permanently passed onto their offspring. And it was stackable. Several generations of inbreeding later, I have a horse that can go upwards of 40 blocks a second.

Fun fact: Chicken Jockeys have an EXTREMELY niche use in redstone. The world record smallest 2x2 piston door requires a mob with a very precise hitbox to trigger a tripwire. The chicken is the only mob that fits this criteria, HOWEVER, there is one problem. Chickens lay eggs which can accidentally trigger the tripwire. BUT, since chicken jockey chickens don't lay eggs, you can use one of those, no problem

Fun Fact: The Strider was added as a solution for “Obsidian Boats” which were highly requested during the Nether Updates development

Unfathomably upset at the fact he didn't include the ender dragon being a mount in the 22w13oneBlockAtATime april fool's snapshot. I'm shaking rn.

striders deserve more love theyre literally vanilla obsidian boats

i do think that when all the dungeons get revamped to fit the quality standard of the trial chambers striders will see more use by mobs and players, maybe the structures could have built in strider docks
they currently just feel a tad out of place and elaborate to get going on, but luckily since saddles are now craftable and piglin drops can get you leather and iron, it's way more reasonable to find a strider and start riding then and there (oh also striders drop string and theres plenty of wood for a fishing rod)

Thankfully a developer apparently confirmed they will be changing the numbering system for updates. So I guess even the devs got tired of the mouthful that 1.21.11 is to say

Zombie Piglin can ride Zoglins, its just SUPER rare because the baby piglin and hoglin have to mount eachother in the short time they have before zombiefication in either the end or the overworld
