I find it deeply ironic that the act that deemed the harkonnens traitors was born out of empathy and a desire to protect human life. When the harkonnens of paul's time were defined by cruelty and sociopathy.

They stripped house Harkonnen of their wealth, pride, title, sense of fashion, humor and hair....

The Harkonnen disgrace originated not from treachery but from an act of compassion by Xavier Harkonnen. This act, though morally righteous, was politically disastrous and shaped the dark, power-obsessed nature of House Harkonnen in later generations.

This explains why future sisters from the respective great houses who acquired other memories don't partake in bloodfued, since their other memories showed them what really happened.

Härkönen is a Finnish surname. It basically means small bull.

The actual rift of the harkonins was the refusal to give an order to finish off the thinking machines because it would kill so many people. So, an act of compassion by the harkonen general.

But, Emperor Shadam VII didn't only want destroyed House Atreites. His plan was to bankrupt House Harkinon making them lesser house of Landsrad.   Since cost of Space Guild Highliners to transport Harkinon Armies back to Dune took nearly all Baron's Reserves of Spice.

Well, it WAS a union between Harkonnen and Atreides in the end which produced their long awaited prodigy.

Well, Jessica was not just ordered to bear "a daughter", but "only daughters", which is different. I know they did say that if Jessica had had a daughter she could have been wed to a Harkonnen heir (presumably Feyd) but this cannot have been the only reason...In that case, it would have been enough to tell Jessica to bear one daughter (who could well be used to secure and bind the two bloodlines in the way desired) and then for the rest of her life with the Duke she would be free to do what she wants, even bear a son. But that was not the case; she was strictly ordered to bear only female offspring. This suggests that the BG were aware of what would happen if the Kwisatz Haderach came one generation too early. They probably even KNEW, otherwise they would not have their Missionaria Protective to plant the legends they did on Arrakis (that the liberator of the Fremen would be a man with a BG for a mother). This derives from the very name "Kwisatz Haderach", which means "shortening of the way", implying the sisters' awareness that he might come earlier than expected or planned by definition.

I like how the founder of the sisterhood, Raquella Anirul, who became the first reverend Mother, was the granddaughter of Vorian Atreides through one of his relationships. Raquella's successor, Valya Harkonnen, bore a deep hatred for the Atreides and pledged to revenge her house's shame by killing Vorian and his decendants, but was not aware of the link between Raquella and the Atreides bloodline.

Also, as a side note, Valya's discovery of the 'Voice' could be considered an important factor in Lady Jessica's and Paul's survival thousands of years later while they were being transported out into the Arakis desert to be executed. I guess both Houses were linked to each other's survival throughout history in more ways than one.

"Landsraad" is a Dutch word that can be rendered into English as "national council."

I read The Butlerian Jihad and The Machine Crusade. Xavier Harkonnen was the hero of humanity. He discovered an awful secret by the leader of the Butlerian Jihad and was surrounded by them. He took them out without being able to explain why. They unfairly branded him a traitor! 😢 That was so sad. I kept imagining actor Michael Shannon portraying him. I'm on the 3rd book now: The Battle of Corrin.

It’s interesting that they have such animosity toward each other (maybe the Harkonen more so),
But yet they become united through their descendant: Paul.

Hurt people, hurt people. An understatement.

"The Harkonnens did nothing wrong."
UMMMM EXCUSE ME DID YOU EVEN READ ANY OF THE 3000 PAGE NOVELS??
"No." 🗿

The fact that both Harkonnens & Corrinos came from house Butler is shocking 😳😳

Man I’m still shocked at how amazing Dune Prophecy is. Very ambitious story and risky as to build upon such an established fan loved history but damn they pulled it off. 🔥

Great to find lore videos that arent AI

I prefer the pronunciations from the 1984 version.  Herbert was an on set advisor in 84.
