What started as a simple challenge quickly turned into one of the toughest recoveries I've had on the BMW R 1300 GS.

For this roadbook rally, I gave Mihkel and Kristjan a 15 minute head start, confident I'd be able to catch them before the finish. After they missed a turn, I found myself out in front until a fallen tree blocked the trail. Instead of turning back, I spotted what looked like a small bog beside the tree and decided to go around it...

That decision turned into a 20 minute battle to drag a fully loaded adventure bike through deep mud, testing both my patience and my strength. Sometimes the shortest route ends up being the longest.

That was a recovery and a half.
One of my biggest fears on the rhino is to get stuck like that.
I’ve just added a ratchet strap to my kit.

You are very brave do have such a ride on this elephant alone!
Also it’s kind of a good example that you need to pay for comfort and power on road by suffering off road, even for such an experience rider like you!

Damn that sucks. Been there too. Bikes trucks sxs … had leave stuff in woods for days. Haha. We changed a clutch in a giant mudhole once on a ford highboy … took us while. lol

100% true, if you slowed in many of those spots, that big pig would have dug the front wheel in and plowed all over. The amount of energy spent wrestling a front end that is plowing away sucks, like being in a pilates class LOL.

If you weren't on a timed event you would have dismounted at the log and walked through the bog and assessed it first!

Good effort Tom! Maybe invest in one of these Green Chile Adventure Gear Z-DRAG RECOVERY SYSTEMS? You are always getting into tricky spots so should be a nice bit of backup?

Thats a ride with a workout ! Superb content as always ! Now , i am not at all an off road rider , but i think the heavy GS bull was digging into the wet dirt with and sinking in its own weight . And then when u tried to pull it out with force u made the hole deeper . Would it have helped if u had dropped the air pressure on the tyres to about 20 psi before pulling out the first time itself? That would have probably given u better contact. Of course assuming that i could get the pressure up again once out.
