Palpatine somehow returning is something I would have written when I was 7

It's both an insult and a meme that Rey buries Anakin's lightsaber in SAND.

These movies could have been about ANYTHING. That's what gets me. They could have literally done anything with these movies and THIS is what they chose to go with.

1:05:46 It's worth mentioning that Leia had a traumatic moment on Tatooine too: She was taken hostage and used as sex slave by a crime lord who just so happened to be a large slimy slug (not that it would've been any less traumatizing if Jabba were human, but a sex slave for a slug is quite disturbing). And you could mention that the sabers were buried near the same house where Luke found the charred remains of his aunt and uncle. Nothing good ever came out of the Skywalker family when they were on Tatooine, and the writers of the sequels clearly missed all of that. But if you were to talk about every inconsistency with the writing of this trilogy, this video would be another hour or two.

It still blows my mind that they had no underlying story arc planned for the billion dollar sequel trilogy. The people in charge at Disney & Lucasfilm aren’t just negligent, they are grossly incompetent.

“While visually stunning it has little impact”
The sequels in a nutshell

We will never get Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, or Carrie Fisher in a Star Wars film again. Good job Disney

"What TFA didn't understand is these traits made him [Kylo] a fundamentally different character than Vader, when we were introduced to him, yet Kylo still occupies the same role."
What a criminally good observation. Well done.

I’ll never get over the fact that they had Mark, Carrie, Harrison, Billy Dee, Anthony and the whole cast available and willing and THIS is what they came up with.

While watching this video, I actually completely forgot that Palpatine made Snoke and kept thinking "Yeah, it is really weird how they never explained where Snoke came from." Cool that such a heinously terrible movie could also be so forgettable.

When I heard Rey say "I'm Rey Skywalker"
I was not only baffled about how stupid these movies could be, but I also thought, in the theater why criticize these movies when they just criticize themselves

The people that say, "oh people didn't like the prequels when they first came out, just wait a few years and everyone will come around" fail to understand ALL OF THIS

The Star Wars Original Trilogy: When you have a vision, but barely the resources and leeway to bring it to life.
The Star Wars Prequel Trilogy: When you have a vision, but too much leeway and resources to do what you want.
The Star Wars Sequel Trilogy: When you have no vision, no plan, but unlimited resources, and decide to play mad libs with it.

The lightsaber calling to Rey was something that the producers consistently told us would be explained and make sense.
In true JJ Abrams form, nothing is explained or makes sense.

"It's not about spaceships." -George Lucas

I wish Finn had been the main character. He had an interesting backstory and even was a little relatable. Seeing him evolve from a mentally-scarred ex-stormtrooper to a Jedi Knight throughout the three films would've been awesome, like Luke evolving from his Uncle's helping hand to a Jedi Knight.

My main problem is how it undermines everything from the original movies, just so they can repeat it all again. The Empire didn't fall, just re-branded. The Jedi didn't return. The rebels just carried on being rebels living on forest moons. Han went back to being a smuggler. Even Palpatine didn't die! The original movies and characters now accomplished nothing! Just so a lazy disney could repeat the same story rather than evolve the universe and have to be imaginative and creative.

“Somehow Palpatine has returned” sounds like a writer’s temporary placeholder note in an early pass of the rough draft script, except they forgot to replace it with the actual final line of dialogue in the finished film.

"Let the sequels die!"
"Retcon them if you have to."
