Fun fact, my family and I were on the brochure for the Waikiki Village for many years starting in the mid 80s. One of the last times I was there in the early 00s they were still using it.
I don’t stay at Myrtle beach because I prefer more empty non commercial beaches nearby but it’s fun to go the Broadway at the beach, Barefoot landing and Medieval times etc while on vacation. It’s hopping in the summer! Love your vlog as always Adam.
My parents actually stayed at the Waikiki Village Motel back in May of 1968,the motel was actually built in 1963,,I was only 9 at the time, glad they restored it.I revisited the motel back in the the Summer 2019,over 50 years later.,I alsp remember the Pavilion well as a child. My Grandparents stayed at the Sun n Fun Motel maybe a block behind the Skywheel, still there awaiting restoration. This video brings back some fond memories, thankyou!
Love the old CARWASH sign! It's so sad to see all the old Hotel/Motels being torn down. Just looking at those old buildings bring back memories of Summer vacations when swimming in an outdoor motel pool was a highlight of a trip.
Glad you came to our area. As a 37 year local I've never heard anyone called a Strander. Lol. You're just a local. the Grand Stand runs 60 miles from North Myrtle to Pawleys Island. And Downtown is still dangerous.
Adam looks like you went back in time. Very interesting. It makes me sad when they tear down buildings. It is like a piece of your passed is being forgotten. Thank You for sharing.
This video brought a tear to my eye. My dad had a 1967 Corvair, it was my first car I drove to and from college in 1998. He died in 2016 and my mom JUST got rid of it last month, it was garage kept in “mint” condition. Lots of memories with that car ❤️
You've done it man. You inspired me to go back and visit. I'm using some of my vacation days next month to go back and visit. As always keep up the great work!
We were here in the early seventies on our honeymoon. All this old stuff was modern in those days, even the car. Have a post card of the Motel we stayed at and looks like the one going to be torn down now. Lots of memories, made a few trips back, but lots have changed too. Like the tragic passing of my wife. But really good memories of how it was.
These were great little cars. After Nader's book, there were lawsuits. When the dust cleared, the Corvair was vindicated but it was too late. GM had decided to nix it due to low sales. My Dad had a 1967 and was an insurance agent in WV. He drove that thing in all kinds of conditions. There are videos on YouTube of the Corvair testing where they took them on WWII Jeep testing tracks and really put them through it. Enjoy the car!!
the basement bar you went to was also a punk club for a while called The Basement. Antiseen, The Murder Junkies, Wheatus, and many more bands played there.
One of my core memories as a child is staying at the Sea Mist on family vacation and walking through that underground tunnel to go eat breakfast. My favorite part of the underground mural was the divers painted on the walls. There is also a nearby small water park that I used to enjoy going to. Thank you so much for showing a picture of what the tunnel used to look like, very nostalgic!
