I absolutely love your content. Tragically I have an absolute iron-clad rule that I never ever watch short-form videos to prevent my algorithms recommending too many to me , so I haven't seen any of yours, but you're making me rethink that rule!

Based on the shorts I’ve seen hosted by Tristan, he’s great. Nice team!

Never watched a behind the scenes YouTube video for this long ever. In addition to all of what you mentioned, there remains the fact that you guys are naturally talented communicators.

For those who hate shorts: When you turn off your watch history YouTube will stop showing the shorts feed, but you can still go to a channel and watch the shorts there.

Sending Tristan to the most extreme climate places is doing the opposite of regular shows where the presenters do a 15 second clip to camera right next to a very nice holiday spot.

Keep the good work up one day the public will understand

I think you get a hidden call to action when you show off how much better x thing is than y. I was probably getting solar panels and a battery but you guys showing off how fast the payoff is really hustled me along. So you dont need to outright say "Go do this" and "sign that", you can just implant ideas and then its the viewer calling themselves to action and its much harder to ignore yourself.

So happy to see your channel thriving and your important content reaching so many ppl

What a fabulous video!  The very end was particularly delightful :)  Thank you Simon & Tristan!

I see what you mean with the social connection of better views when you are on camera, but for me it's also a thought of "It's Simon's video, so I know it's interesting and trustworthy information". Because even though you can see which channel the short is from of course, it's not as obvious/direct.

Simon and other Simon giving youtube advice, YAY!!!!  😄😄💚💚💚💚💚💚

The vertical videos are amazing, a real highlight of my week each time! So crunchy, such great info packed into a short space😄
I don’t know if there’s that much of an overlap with your ordinary audience? It sometimes seems (even from this comments section) that there’s not? But I think you said that that was exactly what you were going for, so I don’t think it’s a problem at all!
Thanks for the vertical vids, they’re amazing, and congrats to Tristan! I’m not even sure about the lesson at 7:30, I think in practice people would get used to and enjoy seeing Tristan on their feeds, i think it just takes a little while.
Also vis-a-vis revenues, just as advertising is actually less of a fraction of long-form content than patreon, so too I think for this! Tristan’s short-form content is a key reason I support you on patreon! It is a draw to the patreon, rather than him being separate from that revenue!

Edit: oh! If I did have one bit of feedback, it’s that I’m not such a fan of the ‘speedrun the x denier experience’ videos with a very monotone Simon? I find them somewhat intimidating, i miss the normal happy Simon :p
but some of those videos have gotten the most views, so don’t listen to me keep doing them if they work and get the message out there!

Youtubers have a long history of trying to "make interviews work", but the solution is almost always "don't do it". If you reeeally have to do it, just write your video normally, so it has the usual flow and pacing and all that. Then only use clips from the interview to accentuate, or make the same points you would have otherwise put in.

Interviews can be amazing, but they're an entirely separate genre of content onto itself. That's why you can't "make it work", because:

- It's not what people expect to so see from that channel, so an interview always starts with a disadvantage for not being the content people subscribed to see
- Interviews tend to be slower, and have lower "information density" than explainer videos, yet they often require more attention to identify the important part. Edited videos are written precisely to minimize these problems as much as possible.
- Your interviewee probably doesn't have a great on-camera presence, because most people don't have a great on-camera presence. You're competing with professionally made entertainment content, and it takes some natural talent, training and experience just to be "mid" by comparison. The scientist who worked in a lab for 30 years and learned to use zoom occasionally probably isn't that person
- Speaking of professionals, "interviewing" is a skill. Some journalists, podcasters and youtubers are really, really good at it. Asking the right questions at the right time, asking interesting questions, helping the interviewee formulate a thought and all that is really really hard. It's live-editing content that comes out of the mouth of an other person in the the future. It's a pretty unique thing, and not a lot of people are good at it. A random youtuber, even if they're great at being a youtuber, isn't automatically a good interviewer

You can still have good questions and discussions, and you can use that information, insights, and some clips to make a video, but don't try to make the interview itself the video if that's not your specialty

Edit: So you brought up some of those points yourself later in the video, but you're still going at this backwards imo. You talk about adding context as a hook for the interview, but that's still trying to make the interview itself The Video. You need to turn this around. You need to now what the video is about, what the message is, what the required context is to bring that point across, and THEN you can look into how to incorporate parts of an interview into the video.

You also talk about interviewees being media trained being important, but you fail to realize that being the interviewer is also a unique and difficult skill. Rather than becoming a talk-show-host-level interviewer, just don't try to make the interview itself the video. You guys are great writers! You know what the video needs. You know the interviews themselves don't have that. So don't try to make the interview itself the video!

Making social media viewing stats interesting is certainly a skill. Great work chaps.

I want to start with this:i
Besides this single thing I love the channel and the good work. This is literally my only single source of frustration regarding yours (and even more so everyone elses) shorts.
Thank you for everything you're working on.

Now to the rant:
I don't  think I am alone on this, but I really dislike the "Evergreen" category of short-form videos; especially so when they are relased on the very platform the long-form video with all the same content was already relased.
I do understand the reasoning behind them, probably a majority of the viewers haven't seen the video, and it might even capture a tiny bit of traffic for the full video;  but as a weirdo who watches practically every signle video from all the channels they're subscribed to; it just feels very frustrating to open a short just to realize it's something you've already seen - not cut into third of the view, not truncated into 1 minute and not in any way improved.
For what it's worth, you're not nearly as bad in your practise of Evergreens in that regard, I am unfortunate enough to be subscribed to some channeks, which first publish the entire video (with actually interesting content), and then they slice it into 8 or so 1-minute clips with nothing new added; which will then fill the entire subscriber shorts feed.
So, my 1 cent is that no one should ever relase their Evergreens on YouTube - If I ever come across it on some other platform; I will be obviously skipping it anyways, slightly chipping its engagement percent and making it look bad to the algorithm.

Thank you for all the work you do guys!

25:11 Simon's an opera singer!?? sorry what a bombshell to drop casually in the middle of a video

Did not notice, I have all Youtube shorts blocked with a addon.

People see you and trust you, because they feel like they "know" you, because they get enough exposure to you that they get a sense of your values and feel in alignment with you. We trust that you wouldn't lie to us.

Do your sponsor bits like map men. They're really entertaining!
