Back in 2022, I put together a lightweight custom Ruger 10/22 for pest control, plinking, and general backyard rimfire duty. Three and a half years later, it’s still one of the guns I use the most.

This video was originally published in 2022 and was recently removed by YouTube. So we’ve brought it back with some updates.

I’m one of those people who used the old deleted video as the “recipe” for building my own 10/22 clone. It’s the gun that got me into small game hunting and hunting in general. I liked it [the gun] so much that I helped by stepfather build one virtually identical to mine. We use them primarily as squirrel getters but I’ve found they’re accurate enough to take headshots on chipmunks. Love that gun!

Can confirm, this video is one of the best primers for a "practical 10/22." I think a big reason is you laid out your decision making process in a way that really does make this a practical build.

That, and the Magpul stocks are sweet. My favorite stocks for this platform, even for the Takedown model.

My favorite rifle is my super light 10/22. Takedown Ruger receiver, Kidd innovative designs trigger, tactical solutions barrel and stock, weaver optic. It weighs 3.5 lbs and that trigger is so good. It's my fun backpacking gun.

Love 22 rifles, luckily I have three sons so of course they all need multiple 22s as well. I have a heavily modified mark ii and a modified 10/22 that are similar to these. Anytime I put together a new 22 I say it's for one of the boys and my wife is fine with it 😂

I have the new factory carbon fiber ruger and it puts my old lightweight build to shame. Paid 500 new for it and have 3k rds thought it with no issues. Put an old 1-4 vortex viper i had on it and its heavy but works good lol. I have a heavy cz 457 and love them both for differnt reasons. I think my bolt action is my all time favorite gun but the ruger is the one I use the most.

Very similar to my 10/22 build. I squirrel hunt with dogs and use it for pest control around the house so I wanted lightweight as possible. X-22 magpul stock, KIDD lightweight fluted barrel, KIDD trigger pack, and a Q erector 22 suppressor makes for a wonderful woods companion. I've also had luck with the SV CCI rounds.

I've done similar. Kidd bolt, trigger group. PA ACSS 6x glass. Hogue overmolded stock, USGI sling. Went with a Feddersen barrel. It seems to shoot most ammo really well. (even bulk pack) Super accurate for rimfire sporter with wolf match.

I own a few old Ruger 10/22's , the rapid fire will give your finger a workout. Love my 50 and 100 round clips. That Leupold scope prob made up most of this build cost, and totally worth it IMO. I own over 100 rifles they all have Leupold scopes in different varieties most cost 2-3x what the rifle cost.

Love my 10-22. Mine has a stainless fluted barrel and that’s the only major thing I feel like I might change. The lightweight one you used is appealing. The BX trigger is very adequate and the hogue stock suits me fine. Have the parts to change the bolt release, I hate fiddling with the standard ruger version. Tons of fun hitting cloverleaf patterns. Haven’t gone to the woods with it yet and I’m waiting for the new rules to go into effect so that I can get my sparrow, less paperwork is better. Great video, thanks for the smarts you share.

I grew up with a regular semi auto Ruger 10/22 but I now have a takedown. I also picked up a Winchester bolt action and I LOVE shooting suppressed subsonic 22lr

I used a Ruger receiver, Faxon bolt and barrel, and BX trigger for my son's build. I 3D printed the chOrtex chassis in glass filled ABS and a folding stock just for fun. It's got an Aimpoint H2 red dot and shoots great for a random beater build.
