This is the first James Bond movie.  Sean Connery was a total badass.

Sean Connery will forever be the ultimate James Bond.

Sean Connery is never just ANOTHER actor playing Bond🎩

Just go through the series in order, boys. You'll be glad you did.

Not taking anything away from the first two, but Goldfinger, Thunderball, and You Only Live Twice are the absolute pinnacle of the 007 series with Sean Connery.

Welcome to the Bond World

Back in the 1960s you arrived at the airport about 30 minutes early, got your ticket and boarding pass and you and your entire family went to the boarding gate.  Once on the airplane if there was a meal time during your flight you got a full meal.  You had plenty of leg room and the men wore suits and the women wore dresses.  It was a nice time to fly.

Every year they have a James Bond marathon on TV. I was in labor with my second child in 1995 and the hospital could not find the anesthesiologist for my epidural. They kept paging him over and over. I'm dying with labor pains. Finally, he shows. As he is administering  my epidural, he whispers his apology to me saying he was caught up in the James Bond marathon! I told him well.. You are forgiven, Sir. In between contractions I said I would like my epidural shaken, not stirred 😂😂. True story.

You should definitely follow up with From Russia with Love  (1963) and Goldfinger (1964), which are probably the very best of the Sean Connery Bond films, and among the best of all Bond films.  They up the ante with more action, craziness, and gadgetry than Dr. No, which was the first.

The girl in the bikini is Swiss model Ursula Andress, when she saw the movie for the first time she realized all her dialog been dubbed by another actress because her accent was so thick.

As much as i ❤ 007, the best decade for the series was the 1960s. I was born in 2000 and I think Bond needs to return to the period of that decade for the next actor.

Cam is exactly right.  He sensed that in 1962, this looked like nothing anyone had ever seen before (like Star Wars in 1977).  Yes!  At this time, all previous spy movies (with the notable exception of Alfred Hitchcock's "North by Northwest") were black and white film noirs, with spies like Humphrey Bogart in trench-coats and fedora hats stabbing each other in dark, rainy alleys.  This one was in full color, under the bright Jamaican sun, with electronic music.  It seemed incredibly new and fresh in its time - ushering in a whole new 1960's attitude about sex, violence, and heroism (which was generationally different from the 1950's attitude).  That's why it became such a hit which has lasted in sequels to this day!   Zay is also right.  The locations are visually beautiful.

You guys should totally watch all the bond films now

The car chases are partially done by rear projection, which means Connery is filmed sitting in a prop car in a studio with a screen behind him projecting film of a car chasing him. Connery is just sitting in the studio turning a prop wheel, acting like he's in a real car, while the editors cut between those shots and exterior shots of the actual cars being driven by stunt drivers.

That's how it was done for decades.

You should DEFINITELY keep going through the series. Watch them in order, and appreciate the progression of how things evolved over time. If you're interested in learning more about SPECTRE, the next film, From Russia With Love, should really get you intrigued.

James was testing the geiger counter by wanding his watch. Until the 70’s, the glow in the dark paint on watches contained radium-226, which is radioactive, and a radiological hazard. It was replaced with tritium, which is less radioactive, and eventually with nontoxic strontium-aluminate.

There’s an interesting story about some women that worked at a watch company using radium based glow in the dark paint. This was before OSHA, or a healthy understanding or respect of radioactive materials, or warning staff of the dangers. Since they were not warned of the toxic nature of the paint, they decided to goof around painting their faces, teeth, and fingernails with it, then later they lost their teeth, hair, nails, and lives to radiation poisoning.

I"m 73 and remember seeing the Bond movies at the Drive-In.  My favorite Sean Connery Bond flick was Thunderball.

Thanks to Cameron and Isaiah!  🎯

The movies get more interesting as they go along but after "Thunderball" they starting getting more outlandish. Enjoyed the reaction.
