It was the largest loss of life in a single ship sinking in all of history. In 1945 the cruise ship Wilhelm Gustloff was evacuating German combatants and refugees from the East when it was caught and torpedoed by the Soviet submarine S-13. The deadly chain of events that led up to the ship's sinking were set in motion years before as the German Reich began a campaign of bloody carnage across Europe dooming millions. But how were 10,000 lost in a single attack? Why was Wilhelm Gustloff torpedoed? Featuring rare and unique images and historical documents from the Wilhelm Gustloff Museum, this film revisits the story of the Wilhelm Gustloff and explains it within the context of the War itself and the ship's unique role within the Reich.
