What makes a garden truly belong to its place? Step into Adrienne Clarkson’s northern garden and see why it matters.
From a surprising way to grow gladioli to the peony named in her honor, this episode explores how Canadian gardens change when we choose plants that actually thrive in the north. Adrienne reflects on stewardship, spirituality, and why Rideau Hall shifted from costly annuals to resilient perennials. We discover the native ginger that runs wild, the quiet battle with squirrels, and a trellised winter melon plan that sparks a friendly debate. Indigenous ideas of living with the land challenge the old impulse to control it, raising a bigger question: what should a Canadian garden look like?
If you’ve wondered how to design a garden that feels rooted, not imported, this will leave you rethinking plant lists, place, and responsibility. Watch to learn the small choices that add up to a truer, northern garden vision.
Watch now and see the garden differently.
