Houéyogbé is a commune in the Mono Department of southern Bénin, known for its rural landscapes, local communities and strong connection to Vodoun culture. Away from the better-known destinations of southern Bénin, the commune offers a quieter look at everyday life, with roads connecting villages, small businesses, markets, farms and communities surrounded by tropical vegetation.

Houéyogbé is also connected to the history of Vodoun in Bénin through Sossa Guèdèhounguè, an important figure in the development and independence of the Vodoun tradition. His memorial and statue are among the cultural sites that reflect the deeper spiritual and historical heritage of the area.

Beyond its history, Houéyogbé is a place where the ordinary rhythm of rural Bénin can still be seen in everyday life  from the roads and homes to local commerce, transportation and village communities.

This video explores Houéyogbé through its roads, surroundings, everyday life and the history hidden within this lesser-known part of Bénin.
