Bohicon is one of the important urban centres in southern Bénin, located in the Zou Department. Known for its commercial activity and position along major transport routes, the city connects people, markets, and communities from different parts of the country.
In this exploration of Bohicon, I wanted to discover what the city looks like beyond the usual images of Bénin. From its busy markets and streets to its urban landscape, Bohicon offers a glimpse into the everyday life of a city that continues to grow and develop.
Along the way, I explored some of the city's interesting places, including the underground village and the Chameleon Temple. These discoveries reveal another side of Bohicon, where local attractions, community life, commerce, and ongoing development exist alongside one another.
Some places are still under construction, while others are already part of the city's daily rhythm. But that is
also what makes exploring a place interesting: seeing not only what it has become, but also what it is becoming.
This journey is part of my exploration of Bénin beyond its major tourist destinations and familiar cityscapes. I'm interested in understanding how different cities function, what makes each one unique, and what everyday life looks like for the people who live there.
