I Flew to the Northernmost Town on Earth 🌍

I went inside the museum that tells the whole story of how people ended up living this far north, then followed the coal mining history that built this town from the ground up.

Working and travelling somewhere as remote as Svalbard means patchy networks and public wifi wherever you can get it, Proton VPN is what I use in the background to keep my connection secure and data private, wherever I'm filming from. Svalbard exists because of coal. Long before tourism, this was a mining settlement, and you can still see it everywhere, the old cable car towers strung across the mountainside, the abandoned mine entrances, the machinery left exactly where it was last used. In this video I walk through the Svalbard Museum to understand how this place was settled, then head out to see the mining history up close, before jumping on an ATV to cross the Arctic tundra itself.

This is video 2 from my Svalbard trip, and it ends with something I wasn't expecting to find out about this town.
