I'm a bed bound disabled 48 yr old woman who found you by accident. Now I'm getting into whittling because of you! I'm just afraid I don't have the strength to actually whittle. I made your Christmas pickle. But I can't seem to get deep cuts. I am getting some flexcut knives for xmas so I hope it helps me. Please keep these videos coming, they are therapy for me. So soothing and your work is amazing. Thanks for the inspiration!! I hope to get even half as good as you!

As someone on the verge of beginning to carve, I find your videos to be so informative.  This one answered a lot of my questions.  I plan to watch every one of your videos and hopefully they'll guide me to success in carving.  Thanks!

It's funny, I've learned this many times over the years, but somehow always seem to forget it. Thanks for the reminder on tool numbering.

This is a great video, I always thought buying tools was the hardest part of carving. Crystal clear now.  Thanks Doug!

I appreciate videos like this that we can always go back and watch.

When I watch your videos, I feel like a close friend who wanted to learn to carve and you graciously agreed!  So calm, knowledgeable and funny, too!

Thanks for this video Doug … it’s really explained alot to me as I’ve been wondering about all this lately. Very useful 👍

colour coding them is a really smart tip, makes finding the tools very easy!

It is never a waste of time to explain the basics or to review them. Thank you for this!

Thanks Doug. Been carving for two years and never knew that was what the numbers meant.

Always love your teaching Doug .. Your the best ..Thank you for doing so much for carvers

Thanks Doug!! Great informative video as always!!

Doug, a thousand times thanks for this video, it explains a lot.

Thank you!! I've been so confused by the numbers and veiner vs v-tool. This is so helpful!

Great videos Doug! Thank you so much. As I am just beginning, I have been harvesting gouges from my local "secret tool store" where the proprietor and I have become friends and I get a decent discount on his supply of vintage tools. I cant wait to stop buying tools, and start buying wood!

This is very well done, Doug.  You gave a thorough but simple explanation of something that confused most of us when we started carving.  Your most important quote-- "Every set will include tools you will never use."  I always encourage people to buy individual tooles as they need them for their projects.  Grow your tools as you grow your skills and experience.  Thanks!

This is massively helpful. Thanks Doug!

This is a great video Doug. I'm sure it'll be referenced by many for a long time, good stuff.

Always wondered what your colour scheme represented. I also use colours because I don't have room in my tiny workshop to spread them out. I have a knife block style rack for my 90+ chisels and, I as I'm into electronics, my scheme is the same as resistor colour codes so I don't have to think what colour is what as it's already in my head! (ha ha). All the best with your carving adventure Mr D. and hello from a wet and windy UK.

Thank you Doug .I have carving been for years and enjoyed  it a lot. What you did with this video is so helpful. Julien
