The Empire's Dragon Explained, the Story of Nafaalilargus (Nahfahlaar) - The Elder Scrolls Lore

I hope you enjoyed the video! Small video correction: In the lorebook "there be dragons" it is stated that more than just one dragon made pacts with Tiber Septim for their protection (and as such that Nahfahlaar did so as well), and some out of game sources (dev posts) suggests that even after Nahfahlaar the Empire had some dragons. Take that last bit with a grain of salt, but its good to know!

So this video came a week early, because I put out a poll which video you wanted to see this weekend and you all voted. And you kept it 50/50 exactly for hours even with 1400+ votes!

And I promised if it stayed 50/50 i would flip a coin and you would get one of the two videos today

And I am not one to break a promise. Enjoy!!

When I learned that the dragon we team up with in ESO was the same dragon from Redguard, my jaw hit the floor.

Nafaalilargus is such a silly yet awesome sounding name lol. Great video IK!

The best thing about elder scrolls dragons is that from a persons perspective two dragons fighting looks like roars and flames/ice being flung everywhere and it would probably look cool asf but from the dragon’s perspective they’re just having a very heated argument until one is bested or dead lmao

I know Nafaalilargus/Nahfahlaar from ES Redguard but I didn't know he had an expanded backstory in ESO. The theory that he is the dragon on the Imperial banner is a neat theory. And indeed, somehow resurrecting him, if written well, could make for a fun potential story mission in ESVI. Perhaps, if the theory he was on Stros M'kai to prepare for the conquest of the Second Aldmeri Dominion prior to Tiber Septim using the Numidium is true, he could in a way finally complete that mission by saving the Tamrielic Empire against the Thalmor / Third Aldmeri Dominion in the Second Great War.

The dragon sigil is also diamond shaped which could be a symbol of the amulet

I kinda hope Alduin did go outside of Skyrim to ressurect a few dragons like old Nahfahlaar. There was kind of a missed opportunity in Vanilla to have Alduin show up in Whiterun and revive Numinex. Like maybe during the siege of Whiterun to emphasize that the Dragons, specifically Alduin are the real threat? And to sorta pressure you and the commander/leader of the army you've sided with to wrap up the war and focus on the Dragons.

ive been saying for years the dragon of the septim empire sigil is Naafallilargus. so glad someone else came to that conclusion as well

very cool! I have a tin foil hat theory: Tiber Septim kept Nahfahlaar in Stros M'kai, away from Alinor where he ultimately used the Numidium. Since dragons are all the children of Akatosh, the god of time, and the Numidium has a tendency to break time, maybe having them together in the same battle could have had some unforseen consequences on causality -- perhaps he was trying to prevent a dragon break.

granted, none of this has anything but vibes to it, but it's fun to think about.

8:48 Based on this info about Dragon Horn Warhorns having a Dragon Rend effect, it makes me wonder if The Horn of Jurgan Windcaller in Skyrim could have been used to on Alduin to keep him grounded.
The whole deal with using the Elder Scroll to view the past could have been bypassed if only Parthurnax would have mentioned that the horn he gave Jurgan could do the exact same thing. 😂😂

What perfect timing of this video. :D Just last week, I finished playing through Elsweyr in ESO for the second time. And yeesh, I had no idea that we teamed up with not just any dragon, but quite the celebrity. I had no idea that Nafahlaar had been around for so long already in lore. Way back in Redguard? Wow. Also had no idea that he had teamed up with Tiber Septim as well.
