"Parisian sandwich" or "jambon-beurre" is what French poeple eat most often at lunch (or at any time).
Typically, it's half of a fresh baguette, buttered, with slices of ham, lettuce, and pickles inside.
Other variations of Parisian sandwiches are with tuna "thon-mayo" or chicken breast "poulet-mayo".
You can often buy it as a set meal with a drink and a pastry for less than 10 euros and believe me it's delicious!

There's no custard added 'inside' a canelé. It's a sort of  thick  'crepe batter' (with vanilla and rhum), cooked at very high temp, so outside is crispy and caramelized while inside is still soft and creamy.

Cancale oysters, pâté en croute, salade lyonnaise, jambon persillé, almost any pastry (better than anything you can find in SF or NYC), choucroute garnie, escargot, all the cheeses, all varieties of shrimp including langoustines, sable cookies, raclette/fondue,  any regional stew, local produce ( gariguette strawberries are the best ever), duck dishes….biggest tip, just check out big supermarkets. They’ll have everything including stuff you’ll find at farmers markets.

I don't see these foods as snacks: the sweet ones are desserts and the savory ones are either part of lunch or dinner, 2 or 3 square meals a day, that's it ..😇

Right at 5 months away from going to Paris for our 25th Anniversary.  This video comes at just the right time.

First time to Paris, our favorite we crepes.

The sandwiches! OMG I don't have dinner out when I am in Paris. I am on the older side, I always bring a sandwich to the hotel room.

Pain au chocolat for sure! I am not even a chocolate person but those were my favorite in Paris!

It always seems like the friendliest people work at bakeries, no matter the country. We had a bakery directly across the street from our hotel last time in Paris. I was in there for breakfast pastries and croissants, sandwiches for lunch, and the evening baguette every day. The lady working there was so friendly, and between her broken English and my pitiful French, she turned me on to many French bakery delicacies including those in this video. Head into a bakery, be open to suggestion, and you'll never be disappointed. Although I am partial to the pain  au chocolat!

"Pain aux raisins", "flan" and "éclairs" are the bests.

You do an overall decent job with the pronunciation, but one thing to fix was "gîtes": the "g" is soft like in "mirage".

My heart stopped when I heard macarons described as the 'French Oreos'.

My sister and I also had amazing pizza in Paris.

Small tip regarding the tarte flambée, which I really like too : it's a dish originating from the Alsace region so half of the times, you come accross it written in Alsacian, that is Flammekueche. So flammekueche, tarte flambée, same exact thing. However, I've never heard of anyone grabbing cheese to go as a snack. And yeah, same deal regarding quiches for me : quiche lorraine, the original one, is my favorite.
Finally, you sometimes come accross the double/triple wammy of French snack goodness : croissant brioché. First there's the saucisse briochée ( which I really like ), essentially a sausage inside a sweet bun, sort of like a pig in a blanket for Americans I believe. Then croissant brioché is the same kind of sausage, inside a croissant instead of brioche, with grilled cheese on top like croque-monsieur

If you are still in Lyon, there is a flan shop in one of the streets behind the Hotel de Ville. Flan is a traditonnal custard pie we have as "goûter" or as a dessert.
Find the subway station bearing the same name. Exit and locate the town hall, right opposite the opera house. Take the street on the left to go behind the townhall to the square (the one with the Burren columns and the fountain, I can’t remember the name). By the way, stop at Voisin to try their sweets (cocons, coussins and quenelles). From there, pass the block and the next, then, take the street on your right to find the flan shop (not far from the wicker basket and goods shop). It’s a small shop, keep your eyes peelled for a shop window filled with thick multicolor pies. Ask someone if needed. Purchase a plain slice and one or two slices of the flavoured ones to try. This shop offers an amazing assortment of sweet (and savoury !) flans.
Then come back to the square and enter the Museum of fine Arts (musée des beaux arts) to enjoy the flan in the inside court. So peaceful and lovely, nice benches, trees, awesome architecture and statues.

Not far, there is a lovely empanadas tiny shop to try too.

Spicy Merguez baguette with mayo and sriracha is sooooo good! I lived in Korea so I am used to spicy food, but sriracha in France is three times as hot as the stuff in the US, AND it has more flavor.

The doner kebab on a lahmacun, or a “turkish pizza”, is beyond delicious… and doner kebabs are my favorite.
