I was born in 66. My sisters were early teens, so the soundtrack of my life is Right Here❤ big bro was a DJ in the 70s, my parents were ww2 aged and were in bands on the radio...gospel of course, in the south. Music and the appreciation of it, in my viens. I graduated in 84. Thats all you need for musical teenage masterpiece era
"Not a Second Time" is a John Lennon Tour 'd Force, in terms of vocals! And Ringo shines on that tune too! But I just love the vibe of it, the mood and the "I'm not going to be pu$$y-whipped" defiance he takes on that song! Lennon is a GIANT on songs like that and Money and All I've Got to Do...he was amazing!
With The Beatles was recorded in 7 separate days between July & Oct 1963. Studio time had to be slotted into their hectic schedule of tours, tv & radio performances.
I Wanna Be Your Man is interesting because about a month earlier The Rolling Stones had released it, and it was The Stones first top 20 hit in the UK reaching #12. The Stones had needed a song, and had asked The Beatles if they had one. Paul had a partially written song that he'd been writing for Ringo to sing, and thought it might suit them. so Paul & John went to show it to them. They liked it, so Paul & John finished writing it then and there for them. "The Beatles gave us our first big hit in England…. which was a song they wrote called I Wanna Be Your Man and we were very grateful for that 'cause that really broke us in England.…. But the example of the way they wrote, and the original way that they -- they crafted their songs wasn't lost on us…" (Mick Jagger, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 1988)
I enjoy your comments. Good luck with your channel growth. With over 200 songs you could probably drive pretty good sub growth with a full Beatles chronological discography deep dive.
John sang lead on It Won't Be Long, All I've Got To Do, Please, Mister Postman, Not A Second Time and Money (That's What I Want). Paul sang lead on All My Lovin', Till There Was You and Hold Me Tight. George sang lead on Don't Bother Me, Roll Over Beethoven and Devil In Her Heart. John and Paul sang lead together on Little Child. John and George sang lead together on You Really Got A Hold On Me. Ringo sang lead on I Wanna Be Your Man. The "big hit" from this album was All My Loving. Roll Over Beethoven is a cover of a Chuck Berry song. Paul was the "screamer" in a number of Beatles songs.
77 yr old female and I will enjoy following your reactions. I like the intro because I think it is worthwhile to get a sense of the times before you listen.
Welcome to a whole new world!!! Discovering The Beatles and their fabulous catalog is like finding a lifelong gift of musical enjoyment and entertainment! For the ultimate Beatle experience, you need to listen to them in chronological order. Their early stuff was so, soooo good, & soooo much fun, and so very different from what was in music when they hit the scene. And then they changed everything!! To actually hear their musical progression as it happens, to hear their talent & genius grow & blossom is a listening experience you should definitely let yourself enjoy! Once you do that, you will understand why 56 years since John, Paul, George & Ringo went their separate ways to very successful careers on their own, The Beatles are still the top-selling artists of all time!! There are also very many very good reasons why The Beatles are the ONLY band in the Rock-n-Roll Hall Of Fame in which all members have also been inducted individually.
And don't overlook the amazing timetable that marks the history of The Beatles. Their first appearance on American TV was on The Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, 1964. On that date, John Lennon and Ringo Starr were 23-years-old. Paul McCartney was 21, and George Harrison was still 20, a few weeks away from turning 21. They were already very popular in UK & Germany, but their now-historic debut in the USA marked the beginning of worldwide Beatlemania! By very early 1970, the group disbanded, before any of the Fab Four had turned 30. In those very few years, in their very young lives, The Beatles recorded more than 200 songs, with 20 #1 hit singles, 19 #1 hit albums!! They also changed music, culture, & basically, the world. The more you know about The Beatles--the more you hear their music--the more you learn about them (individually & as a group)--the more you will appreciate what a truly great gift they and their musical genius were to mankind. FUN FACTS: 1) The very beautiful Till There Was You (sung here so brilliantly by Paul) was written by Meredith Wilson, for his 1957 Broadway show, The Music Man. The show was such a big hit, a film version was made in 1962 & was also a huge hit. Yet, Mr. Wilson and his estate received more royalties from The Beatles' recording of the song than all the other royalties they made from the show, movie, both soundtrack albums, AND all other covers of all the songs combined!!!
2) You Really Got A Hold On Me was written by Smokey Robinson, a successful singer/songwriter/producer before The Beatles became famous. But he has said that the first time he heard The Beatles singing it--one of HIS songs--on the radio was the first time he realized he had "made it" in the music business. And Smokey's always been quite proud of that achievement!!
The Beatles built their empire on simple little two minute love songs. They knew they had to have original songs, and they knew could write love songs that would have wide appeal. They had accurately predicted their target audience through countless hours of playing for young people throughout England. From the seedy clubs of Hamburg they developed the toughness required for the grind of being performing musicians. Though the life was fast and fun, lesser bands might have crumbled, but they had one more thing that propelled them forward....Luck. They were a good band, but they lacked direction. Luck came their way in the form of Brian Epstein, who had the vision they lacked, and he believed in them implicitly. He got them a record contract, and luck struck again when they met George Martin, the man mostly responsible for their incredible success from that point on. He also believed in them.
