Romance languages (French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Romanian) are languages originating from Latin. The name comes from the latin adverb  'romancie' which means 'in Roman'. The name has nothing to with romantic feelings. That term comes from latin 'romanticus' meaning 'of a poem'.

In Europe we prefer PDA before PDV (Public Demonstration of Violence).

About coffee : same word but two very different drinks. For french, italian (and almost every european I guess ?) it means a tiny expresso you drink at a table in restaurant or bar . For usa it's a sweet drink that taste more sugar than coffee (which is naturally bitter) that you sip while walking in a hurry to go to work.
In France saying "on va boire un café ?" (let's go have coffee) means more : "let's go to a place where we could talk while drinking something", so it's a cultural thing and doesn't almost relate to the beverage itself. You can say "on va boire un café ?" and at the end one is having Coca-Cola and the other a tea but that's fine, because what was intended here is having a dedicated moment to sit at a coffe shop to have a talk. (In fact "un café" is not really a coffee shop, it's more like a bar. But in the us "bar" implies adults drinking alcohol where 'le café' is a place for everyone, children included. Most of the time "coffee" and bar in France is the same place but if you say "let's go to the coffee" or "let's go to the bar" is what you intend to do/drink that differ, not the place. In my limited understand of Us, a coffee shop is a place to buy and take away coffee, not to stay. Just like a grocery store specialized in coffee. So same word for the drink and the place but each time 2 differents things.

keeping the coat in metro is just about practicality. If it's crowded, you avoid to hit people when u put it off. Sometimes you just ride it for less than 10mn , so no need to keep it. We also have wallets etc in our coats so you avoid to lost it etc...
About ordering in restaurant , first the waiter will ask you if you want an "aperitif" ( drinks and if you wnat some appetisers). if you don't want to take an aperitif, then the waiter will ask you if you want to order now, if not, the waiter will give you time to think about it. When you order , you will order everything but the dessert. The waiter will come to you when you finished the main course and ask you if you want a dessert. If you want a dessert, they'll bring you back the menu and let you time to choose. After your dessert, the waiter will ask you if you want a coffee , a tea or a "digestif" (disgestif is generally a strong liquor , that supposed to help to digest). After all of this, the waiter won't comme back for the check, you can ask for the check or directly go paying to the counter.

15:00 - In France, dishes aren’t simply reheated and served; everything is prepared fresh and plated individually ("service à l'assiette" ). The kitchen needs time to prepare the main course while you’re enjoying your starter (entrée). This allows the chefs to pace the service properly, manage mise en place (pre-prepped ingredients), avoid running out of popular dishes, and coordinate cooking times—especially for items that require more time to prepare.
That’s why servers usually take your full order at the beginning of the meal. It helps streamline the service, makes things easier for the kitchen, and ensures you don’t end up waiting unnecessarily. The result? A smoother, faster dining experience for you.
That said, with a few exceptions—like certain desserts such as soufflés (which take time to prepare and must be served the moment you're ready to eat them) or frozen treats like a Vacherin glacé (which need to be taken out of the freezer ahead of time)—you don’t have to choose your dessert right away (unless you're worried it might run out! 😊). You can wait until after your main course to decide, or maybe opt for cheese instead. And for the true food lovers… why not both cheese and dessert? 😁

You don't understand, protests in France are a cultural thing. We learn in school that modern France has been built on the back of revolutions, and we're really proud of it. Protests in France tend to be on another level.
We've cut the head of our king once, and we love to  remind our government of this.

Also, I find it so ironic that Americans are surprised by European smoking issues when the "cool smoking kid" comes from 50s-70s American culture (cinema, music) and a loooot of big American brand advertisements (like Marlboro and Philip Morris).

It is so laughable to me that the theeth guy complains about the high income tax in France that benefits all, doesn´t realise that he pays hughe amount of taxes in the US when he goes to buy groceries, has to tip an insane amount of dollars in restaurants, can become poor because of healthcare, etc..but all this money doesn't benefit all people.

I'm French and I confirm, we don't have a discussion to say we're together. It's just obvious we're together and dedicated to an exclusive relationship. However, on the opposite, when you just want a casual or a not serious relationship, you have to say it.

Somebody should do a reaction video of how things were in 1970's USA and today. The past is another country.

I'm French, so I would like to give my feedback
1 You might see people drinking non-alcoholic beverages in the streets but it's more juices, water or soda and it's pretty rare. And you will never see a French person drinking coffee on the street. Coffee is for coffee places or at home.

2 You might have not seen the reusable items at fast-food because they're pretty new (they're mandatory since about 1 or 2 years ago), so if you went to Europe before, you probably haven't seen them. And I don't remember if it's only in France that this is mandatory or if it's an EU measure

3 Yes, I think there are more proofs of love in France than in the US, and it's not shocking to take the other by the hand or doing a little kiss on the mouth, but don't be too stereotypical, they are only a few people doing that

4 Yes, dogs off-leash are more and more common, especially in wide spaces like beaches or parks. It's just a question of dog education

5 Yes, you pay more taxes in France, but at least most of the healthcare is free, if you're unemployed/pregnant/diseased/old you will receive benefits and you have only a few college fees (might be no college fees at all if you have a scholarship)

6 Yes, there is a lot of protests (in big cities) but most of them have only few people protesting (less than 20). It isn't true that there are protests every Saturday, last time it happened it was during the Yellowjackets movement in 2018-2019. A typical social movement in France with thousands of protesters (like for retirement) has a protest every 1-2 weeks for 1-3 months and movements like that happen every other year. And a lot of protests aren't to get what we don't have but rather keep what we already have.

7 I don't smoke, but a lot of my acquaintances smoke or have stopped smoking. I think this is more visible because smoking is forbidden in the inside but they were huge more smokers 30 years ago. And weed is illegal in France so this might explain why many French smoke cigarettes

8 For me it's normal to take vacation on summer. I don't understand why your bosses let you work when it's very hot, your kids are on vacation and you can't take them to holidays, you don't enjoy spending an entire week tanning on the beach or at least enjoying the sun...

9 For me if you go to a restaurant and have only 30 minutes to eat, that's a school restaurant. Let the chef cook and if you're alone, go on your phone.

10 If we don't take off our jackets, scarves, etc. on the metro, that's because there's not enough space for that (or it might be the case in 2 or 3 stations) and we don't let our clothes in the metro by going out of it too quickly

11 If the waiter wants to have all of your order, that's because drinks and appetizers are quicker to prepare than the main dish so you don't have to wait for they to go to your table a second or a first time. If you're not ready, you can always say to come back later. A quick tip : when you're ready to give your order, close the menu, and when you're ready to leave, put your fork and your knife in the plate.

12 You better not too anticipate your weekend plans. Even when I do things by myself I often choose what I will do impulsively

13 Actually, bars close around 2 AM, but nightclubs close at 6-7 AM and it's frequent to have afters

14 When you're adult and not on dating apps, it's true that your relationship is "serious" in default mode

As a French, I would argue that cultures can be very, VERY different from a region ot another. I'm from Alsace, and we're more "german" in spirits (making plans, for example), but never tell us we're Germans. I honestly do not recognize some things that were told here, but culture and traditions can be vastly different between east and west, north and south, and everything between.

About people not taking off their coats in the metro.
1- We’re lazy
2- We’re afraid to forget our bag if we have something else in our hands. Since the terrorist attacks in the metro in 1995, if you forget your bag, they will just make it explode.
3- It’s about personal space. The seats are small and if you have to take off your big coat, it will take some space to people next to you.

9:47  90 days to become the official protector of the law is insane!

Why the dogs behave so well? They are educated. This is no jokes. In Germany we have schools for dogs -and their owners .
About smoking: Why the french are  still smoking ? Do You remember the MALBORO MAN? The cool cowboy? Everyone wanted to be like him in the 70th. I started to smoke because of that coolness. But nobody told the people about the dangers. Grisham wrote a novel about the tabac industry,
In the 90th my husband had to visit the US a few times because of business. He told me nobody is allowed to smoke. It had been difficult to buy cigarettes. But outside the restaurant you could buy coke - I do not mean the lemonade.

1:39 "Not just as an activity to sustain oneself" Fun fact: rushing eating is unhealthy, when taking your time to eat your body gets way more nutritional value out of the food (mainly because you chew better) and you won't overeat as quickly because when eating your body gets signals which results in the final signal that you had enough, when eat fast on the go, a lot more goes in before the signal to stop eating comes with the result that you overate.

Hi Guys... not only that it approx. 30 days vacation there!
During the time, the employer continues to pay even though you are not working!!!
It is the same when you are sick and going to the doctor. If the doctor writes me sick, I will continue to pay even if I am sick for 1 or 2 weeks and not a single day of vacation will be deducted from me.

As a German, I think before what I want to eat, and then I order my food completely.
Information: Food is usually nothing in Europe for in meantime, and you are thinking before about what do you want to eat!
I do not want to be disturbed while eating. If I want something more, then I give the waiter a sign, and he will come and ask me what I want. Waiters in Europe usually pay attention to signs that the customers give him and he then comes to the table.
A waiter who constantly comes to the table and would keep asking me if I wanted to order anything would annoy me extremely. I am grown up and if I want to order something more I will give him a sign.
Disturb the guests when he is eating, this is in Europe rude.

The last lady is not aware that in some restaurants, to have the different dishes of her meal served in time and correctly cooked, the kitchen has to know what she wants from the start to the end. For instance some desserts may require a long delay, so their preparation may start sometimes 20 minutes before being served. In France a meal is often a moment of sharing much more than food. She is also generalizing what she experiences with her friends regarding plans, many other people know for a long time what they will do on a particular week-end.

It never occurred to me that non-Europeans think waiters should come to the table more than once. Unless you’re a wedding/christening guest, and the organiser has arranged for guests to be catered to and tended to personally, no European expects the waiter to go back and forth like that. The whole table gives the waiting staff the order at the beginning, and asks them to return for the dessert order, maybe, if they’re not sure yet if they’ll have dessert. That’s it. Unless you want a refill, you dropped your utensils, or there’s something wrong with the food, you don’t bother the staff. Likewise, the staff can come by once to ask if everything’s alright and to ask if you like the food, and that’s it. Short and sweet. You don’t keep them from their work with tedious conversation, you don’t chit-chat, you don’t make a fuss because your soup’s not hot enough and you want to speak to the chef or the maitre d’. They don’t owe you their spare time. They’re only paid to serve you. If you want entertainment, ask for a hostess, if she has time, or come by when they have live shows. It’s only super expensive, posh restaurants that have the kind of capacity and backside-kissing culture where patrons can expect round-the-clock attention. If you’re hoping for a roadside US diner-type experience, where the waitress will put up with snarky remarks and nosy questions, you’re not getting that in Europe. Waiting staff are professionals and they demand respect. Also, people don’t complain about their food here like in the USA. I’ve known people who lived in the US and then came back to Europe or visited and always took their frustrations out on servers, who had done nothing wrong to begin with. You show respect to the person who offers you the food in the same way that you show respect to your mother when she feeds you. In some European cultures, cooking and sharing food is sacrosanct. You don’t besmirch the experience with complaints.

US protests seem miserable affairs to me compared to French ones because the French are extremely belligerent.  US citizens seem a bit passive just standing by the side of the roads with a few placards.  French workers will block the roads into Paris with massive trucks and tractors bringing the place to a halt.  They also close the roads to the ports, I remember the ferries between the UK and France being diverted.  We (the UK) should be more French in this regard.  They wouldn't let their government get away with half the crap we put up with.  Vive la France!!

European here: I was always taught that eating too fast was bad for digestion. I don't actually know if that's true, but I do know that if I eat too fast my stomach ends up hurting - migt just be that I'd only eat fast if I was stressed and in too much of a hurry, but honestly, why wouldn't you take the time to enjoy food shen you're eating it?
