Absolutely loving these, thank you. Seen so little of this particular game which I guess is understandable as it’s largely been forgotten after the previous three tests.
Just a point on Botham, his rivals in the 80’s were Imran Khan, Kapil Dev and Richard Hadlee all great cricketers and you could argue we’re at times better than Botham at bowling or batting, however, not one of the aforementioned could field like Botham did and take those breathtaking catches. Botham was an all-time great slip fielder and that completed his all round brilliance. The other three simply didn’t have that.
Tough on Botham being part of a 4 man bowling attack. Took over 100 wickets at 19 odd under Brearley,so it's understandable that he and Willis were seen as sufficiently potent to pick just one more frontline seamer. . You can see that he bowled at reduced pace after a long season.
I remember watching this at the time. Martin Kent looked a very good player to me. He was playing out of position here, too, as an opening bat. Injury ended his career too early.
