You can still play force of will in a lurrus deck. Only the cost of permanents are restricted

@schmian95 1 year ago

The best thing about the timing of the Godzilla cards was that there was a Spacegodzilla with the epithet "Death Corona"
Riiiiiight as the pandemic started

Regarding Lurrus, WotC has said that they're considering banning it again in Vintage. It's still that good.

@morgange9821 1 year ago

CGB, you should do a video on Lantern Control just to see if Cimo can even figure out how it works

@leafy470 1 year ago

"Obosh got ban" was the best thing this video, Cimo's reaction was hilarious

@MFMegaZeroX7 1 year ago

With Lutri, it seemed that Cimo didn't realize that the Companion doesn't need to be your Commander in EDH.

RIP Cimo 😢

I feel like Cimo didn't understand the Kaheera situation that well. The thing is, in control decks especially, playing a big 6 mana finisher is a huge cost because it absolutely SUCKS to draw them early when they do literally nothing. Being able to play a deck of only answers and card draw makes control a lot better and essentially removes the possibility of bricking.

52:03 This exchange made me realize that CGB NEEDS to show Cimo cards like Flusterstorm and Mindbreak Trap lmfao

CGB, Lurrus could be played alongside Force of Will. It only cared about permanents, so there was no deckbuilding cost. Force of Will, Force of Negation, any instant or sorcery you could ever want.

Also, the rules do specify a soft upper card limit - you must be able to shuffle it, by yourself. Technically advantage to bigger hands.

Also, Modern’s Yorion ban didn’t have to do with power level, it was about fetchlands and constant shuffles. Don’t think I agree with it, but that was their more stated reason, not because it was too good.

In defense of banning Kaheera it does just give control an extra card and free up those slots in the deck a finisher would clog up for more removal and control pieces

@asteroiddropper 1 year ago

Alex's reaction to Kaheera is gold lmao

By the way, Lutri has infinite combos

1)Lutri
2) a permanent with a magecraft trigger (which means it also triggers when spells are copied) that could lead to a win con
3) any copying spell
4) any spell the copy spell could target (even an opponent's if the copying spell could)

Step 1 cast the copying spell
Step 2: have Lutri copy the copying spell
Step 3 to ♾️: New copy copies the copying spell
Result: infinite magecraft triggers

Storm Kiln Artist = infinite treasures
Witherbloom Apprentice or Professor Onyx = infinite drain
Ral, Storm conduit = infinite pings

A point on Lurrus in vintage. The fact that it was power banned was an insane moment but fully warranted. Now that it’s legal again with the tax, it is DOMINATING the format. Lurrus Psychic Frog and Lurrus Paradoxical Outcome have the highest win rates in the format, but decks like Lurrus Underworld Breach, Lurrus Sultai Midrange (somehow not classified under Lurrus Psychic Frog even though it wins with frog) and even Lurrus Stiflenaught has been seeing recent play. Lurrus sees near a 50% meta share in vintage.

Just a little extra context about the Lurrus ban in Vintage. Normally, Vintage regulates power level through the restricted list instead of a banlist, it's not the complete wild west. It's much like how YGO has the Limited list and the Traditional format puts all banned cards on the Limited list, though, in MTG's case Vintage's restricted list is different to Legacy's banlist.

The Companion Mechanic was explicitly the reason Lurrus had to be banned in Vintage, because the thing that made it oppressive was having that single copy always available. You didn't play extra copies of Lurrus, that single one did all the work, so restricting you to a single copy of Lurrus didn't change things at all. This is why it was the first power level ban in over 20 years in Vintage: Because a Restriction wouldn't do anything.

One day i'll make a Lutri commander deck, no companion, just that cute otter as my commander. Just wish she wasn't banned so i didn't have to go "Hey I'm playing this banned commander but the reason it's banned has nothing to do with my deck" lmao

@SpecterVonBaren 1 year ago

"Have you considered if the deck has no minions?"

Me: What?

Cimoo: What?

A talk about weird stack interactions sounds super interesting

A few notes, most decks in modern that play Kaheera actually do play other creatures namely the pitch elementals (Solitude, Subtetly, Endurance), which two of them Kaheera can also be pitched to, there also have been Omnath focused elemental tribal strategies before although those are pretty rare.
And Lurrus doesnt stop you from playing Force of Will in your deck since it only cares about permanent mv as opposed to Keruga which cares about all nonland cards.

@Chargercrazy117 1 year ago

I'd love to see a video themed as "Guess how QUICKLY cards were banned". Have like a list of a few, or have 2 side by side, guessing which one was faster to the chopping block.
