RIP Alex Cimoooooooo.   Your mark on card game youtubing has been greatly felt and will be beyond greatly missed.

idea: show a gradient of progressively more nerfed strip mines and guess where the line of playability sits.

Boys, you two and Rarran have been on a streak of "look at how stupid my game was" for who knows how long at this point. I would LOVE if there's just a podcast of you guys sharing random nonsense from your respective games that wouldn't quite cut it for a full length of themed episodes.

Silly CGB, Eye of Ugin isn't in the set because Ugin wasn't in space. But Eldrazi are in space so they have temples.

It was a good time, thanks to both of you. RIP Cimoooo

42:08 Grove is technically part of a cycle, but it was in the Future Sight "futureshifted" sheet, where each card in the cycle was actually a member of a different land cycle. Future Sight was weird like that.

One thing I'd note in some of these (looking at ancient tomb specifically) is that some cards never get reprinted into formats like modern or pioneer because they are considered too strong, so they don't even have the opportunity to be banned.

Strip Mine is so giga banned that WotC printed 4 worse versions of it
Edit: there are 12 lands with the text "destroy target land" or "destroy target nonbasic land"

50:08 if you flicker TKS then the whole of the flicker has to resolve before TKS' triggers are put on the stack. this means you can order the triggers to let them draw first and then look at their hand. you can (given enough mana or turns) repeat this process until they have nothing but lands left.

EDIT: regarding the Eldrazi Winter: what made Eye of ugin so "fun" was the existence of a certain 2 mana eldrazi that had the ability to copy the Power and Toughness of Eldrazi that entered this turn (until end of turn). So you would turn 1 the Eye, then slam 2 or 3 eldrazi mimics, play a temple for turn two and make all your mimics into 4/4s with TKS (or 5/5 with Reality smasher if you also had simian spirit guide in hand for the 5th mana)

Eldrazi Temple is still a key Modern card today. With Kozilek's Command it is a significant way for Eldrazi based decks to ramp so fast and then exile cards from a graveyard,  remove, or filter in any combination in addition to that ramp you want.

46:02 The reason why Grove of the Burnwillows + Punishing Fire is not a modern deck is because the latter is somehow still banned in the format.

Oh, I think that's me you're talking about with the "Strip Mine lock against Richard Garfield" story.  I got the chance to play against him at Worlds in 2006 (I think?) in Baltimore, MD, where I had this really terrible and clunky Green/White deck based around Crucible of Worlds, Ghost Quarter, and Aven Mindcensor, using Rites of Flourishing to let me keep playing multiple Ghost Quarters a turn and eventually run my opponent out of lands.  Richard was playing a Black/Red deck with a bunch of playtest cards based around a prototype energy counter mechanic (*years* before Kaladesh).  I did eventually win that game, and got him to sign my Player Rewards Textless Wrath of Gods.  He even personalized two of them beyond just the signature, one with the year and location, and the other with a text box saying "Oops, my bad."

Cimo would really enjoy the wonderful marriage of a certain Teferi and displacer kitten

RIP Cimo. My favorite Yugituber.

Watching all the CGB x Cimo collabs. These 2 have such great chemistry. Alex really did bring the best out of the people he worked with

You know a company doesn't have much of a PR department yet when an event name like meet & beat get's approved

1:07:00 bro just invented the Party mechanic

7:45 funnily enough in vintage it's very relevant. Especially in multiples, choosing to take like six damage is a big decision

Grove of the Burnwillows is legal, but Punishing Fire has been banned in modern for ages. Grove has also seen some play in Tron decks that want to make use of the colorless mana as well as the mana fixing and don't care about giving the life.

COMPANIONS EPISODE WHEN?
