“We want to thank the Munro Live community for engaging a detailed engineering discussion about the high Voltage wiring of the BYD Shark.  I apologize for my vague description of the issue that I was trying to highlight in the video.  I pointed out the location of the charging cable and the cable feeding DC power back to the rear drive unit and I noted that there appears to be a ground loop associated with those cables and the location of the grounding strap on the rear inverter makes that ground loop worse.  I failed to explain that a ground loop is formed in the shielding of the cables, not the cables themselves.  The shielding on both cables appears to be connected to the case of the battery and at the inverter case (both ends connected).  Also, the charging cable is connected to the battery case and at the on-board charger case.  All the cases are grounded to the chassis such that the shielding forms a continuous loop.  None of this is an issue if the current is strictly constant, but the DC current has ripple at the switching frequency (and the motor fundamental frequency) and that ripple can drive current in the shielding.  I have seen cases where the current in this type of ground loop can have peaks in the dozens of Amps, not milliamps as some of the commentors have suggested.

Again, thanks to the Munro Live community for calling out things in our videos that don’t seem right.”

I'm glad the comments section is pretty unified in calling out this guys BS.

Sandy, blink twice if you were told not to say positive things about this car and you’re just trying to tell us in a different way😂

This video make me cancel my raptor and booked a shark.

This is awesome - Munro looks at components from a production/cost saving/weight saving/fit for purpose point of view - they basically said the frame was way over strong and complicated to produce making it exceedingly over-strength for purpose - awesome! - makes me want to buy a BYD Shark....

It's a beast of a truck. The best PHEV out there.

Overbuilt but still cost less. Thank you very much BYD.
And don't change it if the price is still affordable.

It's to try and take over the Australian and African dual cab market.  Its not an american truck, its a recreational off road 4x4 and they are trying to beat the hylux and ranger for being the toughest vehical.  This was essentially a great add for byd showing that there ute is way over engineered giving customers the confidence to buy Chinese.  This ute will change the dual cab market and all other manufacturers will have to make similar plug in hybrids.

Wow Munro, this backfired wildly! I was puzzled when watching the video and then I came to the comments. I have never seen you being so badly bashed! One of the best ad for BYD ever!

Never heard an engineer bag out over engineering. Makes me want the Ute even more than before.

This Ute is a completely new design and footprint that is built as good as an armoured truck. I’ll take that.

Ordered my shark 6 here in Australia, hoping for arrival by April. Cant WAIT to drive around in my over engineered tank of a Ute. Thanks for showing us how badass this thing is 😊

BYD is building their brand image for international market with this model for rough terrains. They are taking on Toyota for reliability and cannot afford any bad image with broken chassis. So what matters to them is how does it compare to a Land Cruiser and not how cheap they can build like a Ford or Ram that NOBODY buys outside of the US

The more Sandy criticizes this truck, the more I'm tempted to buy one.

As a EE designer for over 40 years, I am having a hard time agreeing with your electrical "loop" radiation comments. I assume that the "pairs" of wires you see on each side is the actual "loop" for a given mode of operation. I do not think their is a "loop" around the outside of the entire vehicle when the electrical motor is providing power to the motor OR receiving power from the ICE/electrical generator. The current loop is only between the closely spaced pairs of wires in either case. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Now I want a BYD. I like overbuilt.

Those are some of the most perfect welds I've seen on a frame coming from any manufacturer. They appear completely uniform. Forensic analysis would have to be used to determine otherwise, but usually defective welds are very visible.

I think Sandy just does NOT understand the use case for these vehicles.  Utes in most parts of the world are regularly DOUBLE over loaded.. pushed WAY WAY past what should be done.  BYD is not stupid.. They DO actually know the customer base and what this vehicle will end up being used for.. So they overbuilt it.  If BYD can build it like this and make money.. that is good for them, and good for the consumer too. and when the vehicle gains a reputation for durability and ability to take abuse it will only be good for BYD.
All the reports and videos I have seen of people in Australia using this, and taking it offroad.. are VERY positive.

There is no problem with an overbuilt chassis. In Australia a lot of 4wd's are breaking chassis because of long distance driving over corrugated roads!.

Let's me explain that strap: it is not a loop, instead it is shield earth, the car does not loose any energy. I have the same kind of earth strap on my Diesel powered 4wd attached to ECU and any electronic devices cover to reduce interference. It is especially important for digital electrical signal to be covered/ shield. The strap looks big, but the current going through is very little or tiny. but you need that size to make sure all voltage  differentiation between each devices is near zero.

Sandy looks at things from a manufacturing cost perspective. As a consumer, I'll take the overbuilt frame any day over a paper-thin, weak piece of garbage that rusts away in 3 years.
