Well, we’ve had one of these in my family for about a year and racked some 10000Km on it. So far it’s been real nice, specially since we got solar panels at home, I think we’ve only had to refuel it like 7 times…

Totally logical and common sense review. The shark 6 is not a touring, towing monster. If you arent doing that and you need a daily ute for work and every day hauling duties, it's a brilliant car. It will go overlanding but not an offroad monster. Most people dont rock-crawl the family car.

Yep. Everything the owner said was on the money. Mine has just over 10K on the clock and we charge at home on solar 90% of the time. With everyday driving I put in barely a tank of fuel every 4~6 weeks.

Being Canadian, our market is just itching for stuff like this. I hope we get some options soon. It's crazy to see Chinese manufacturers building generally better quality vehicles than our OEMs which are largely producing absolute garbage. Even Toyota is struggling with quality lately. If we can get better quality and lower prices it's going to wreak havoc on our auto sector, which, being a consumer is fine by me. It's time they started producing better products for the ridiculous prices being asked.

I was expecting a hatchet job but it was very fair in pointing out the strengths and weaknesses. The only thing I'd disagree/clarify with is the economy which indicated over 80km it wasn't good. Assuming you use battery for 80km, a 200km trip averages out at around 6L/100 and a 300km trip averages out at about 7.5L/100. Above that is where diesels become more economical overall assuming you charge every trip. I'm averaging about 3L/100 after 30,000km. Like the guy interviewed, I'd never go back to a slow rattly diesel after a year in the shark.

The comfort is worth mentioning too. I've only had mine for 2 weeks and 1600k's but I absolutely love it for how it drives, handles, the features, power etc etc

As a B5 owner with over 100,000 kilometers of driving experience, I can say that BYD’s off-road vehicles are not designed for extreme conditions. They offer a well-balanced overall functionality, leaning more toward comfort. However, when faced with truly challenging off-road situations, they perform significantly better than ordinary SUVs. With this vehicle, you can rival any hardcore off-roader in acceleration and outmatch any regular SUV or sedan in off-road capability—coming out on top in both comparisons!

Great video! I hope we get the Shark here in Canada. We live in northern BC and love our Ioniq 5 for city and highway driving but keep our aging F150 around for adventures off the pavement and the Shark would make the perfect replacement for us.

I can't believe people still think diesel is king. Look at the actual fuel use when towing a large van with a V8 Patrol versus dual cabs and even cruisers. In the end they are all very close but one has the power to do it with ease. The complications of modern diesels have ruined them. The Shark probably suits 70% of 4wd owners.
With a little more rear power and a good LSD or diff lock it will be as capable as most need.

Owned mine for a year. Been running Maxxis M/T's for 20,000kms. Haven't driven my VE Thunder V8 Ute since.
Improvements need are a larger fuel tank (available aftermarket), a connection point for an electric winch that connects to the main drive battery, and allow more app installations.
Next model needs a 2.0l engine, higher rated REAR electric motor with diff lock, camping mode, and a stronger offroad regen option.

I have had mine for a bit over a year with 19k km on it.

I have used it to tow my pop top, 4wding and general soccer mum duties. I absolutely love it. Plenty of power, no BS DPF to deal with, comfortable and more than capable for me.

The small fuel tank is a PITA, when I was driving from Bris to Airlie Beach with the trailer I had to stop frequently for fuel, but the only time i really use fuel is when I go camping.

I echo what this gentlemen says about the Shark though. Would never look back and would 100% buy again.

This a great interview full of honest facts only. I love mine, its great for camping, I charge my ebikes from it and use for fridge. This ute drives like a car in city, the 360 camera assists in parking in tight shopping Centre car parks. Need to watch out for rust though if taken to beach. It is best looking and fastest ute in town.

If you’re into off-roaders, it might be worth waiting another year. Chery’s adventure brand Jetour is bringing out the F700 — claimed to be the world’s first diesel PHEV ute — plus the insane F700 6x6.

The standard F700 looks even tougher than the BYD Shark, with an expected price around AUD $70k, while the 6x6 version could possibly come in under AUD $100k. Both look absolutely stunning.

Personally, I reckon Chery’s engines are well ahead of BYD’s at the moment. And for something this capable, a 0–100 km/h time of around 5 seconds is pretty wild for an off-road-focused vehicle.
