I visited 5 bookshops in 2 days and came home with ONE book. Yes, I am shocked too.

Here is where we went:

I had a book buying ban. I had a rule. I only buy trophy copies of books I have already read and loved. So did I break it? Kind of. Watch to hear my excuse. 😭

We stopped at a gay bookshop that has been open since 1979. The owner told me a story I loved. 🥹 Then I spent ages in the cosy crime wall at Piccadilly, even though I do not read much of it. Bloody hell, those covers.

I totally agree about hardbacks! I would much rather have a hardback than a paperback. It stays open more easily and there's less risk of breaking the spine. And a library hardback? Top tier! The plastic over the dust jacket means you don't have to take it off and it won't get dirty or wrinkled.

I never thought I would recommend a cozy mystery to you 🤣, but I've inhaled Eryn Scott's Murder at the Morrisey series like it's my job. It's about a young woman who lives in an apartment building, and she can see ghosts, and some of them help her solve the murders that happen in her building. So yes, it's like Only Murders in the Building but in paranormal, cozy book form. The first book is A Body in 3B.

I grew up playing Uno with my grandparents! It's such a good time.

Loved this video, I thought only buying one was very restrained and it was for an excellent independent gay business so you had to support it! Really liked how relaxed and free form this was- very organic. Thanks for taking us shopping with you!

Bookshops are often closed on Mondays because the staff work on a Saturday/Sunday so the owner gives staff the day off on Monday: best to check before you go as I've come a cropper many times. Thank you for panning so slowly across the bookcases in bookshops so we can actually read the titles - nothing worse than it being a blur. I read cosy crimes as palette cleansers between more grittier thrillers: Eva Gates is my favourite cosy author and I spotted several titles I fancy. I'm now desperately waiting for the 5th AK Turner book - love 'em. A really lovely video, thank you. x

As someones who’s trying to work through my physical tbr (and transition to kindle only) these bookshopping vlogs are so helpful. Get the enjoyment without having to do it! 45 physical books to go!

I genuinely thought you bought more books than you did. As you were shopping, I was perusing the books shelves with you and found at least 5 books that I would have bought. Thank you for taking us along on your trip. I love all your videos. I loved this one, because I haven’t been to this side of London before, seeing the whole street of bookstores, I would love to live there…that would be so amazing ❤

Omg I’m going to London in just 4 days!! I’ll be flying from Canada and visiting both London and Hay on wye. I can’t wait for the Gay on wye bookshop and hope I’ll be able to change my trip to visit gay is the word as well!
Edit to add: you also did so amazingly well with the book ban, and I’m genuinely so glad you got to support a small queer business so I do think it’s a win!

Great video! I'm from the US and I have to agree that James Patterson is a bit too much now. I've not read any of his books but I've seen a couple of the movies based off his Alex Cross books, mainly because Morgan Freeman is the BEST. I tend to gravitate towards some horror but mostly dark romance like Penelope Sky, JT Geissinger and HD Carlton. I just finished the Haunting/Hunting Adeline books and I am just wrecked. And despite my reading genre being dark romance and horror, I'm writing mystery which is odd to me. I'm working on my first novel and it is a murder mystery but even all my other book ideas are basically mystery or psychological suspense-type mystery/thriller. You showed great restraint in buying books on your trip. I think I might have bought one book from each shop lol.
