And don't forget, keyboards are always better when the musician wears a cape.

Chris Squire on that heavy bass. Peak Prog rock in the early seventies.

What a refreshing reaction!  Do yourself a favor and dive deeply into Yes; these are master musicians who will never disappoint.

I'll never forget the first time I heard this song. 11th grade first period art class. Teacher came in 5 minutes late holding the 8 track tape saying y'all gotta hear this! Several of us were late to second period because we listened to the whole tape.

Even on the 1000th listen you never tire of this song, there is so much to it.

Same as the response below.  How refreshing to see a young talented musician/singer in their own right understanding all the movements in a very complex song and enjoying something recorded probably 50 years ago.  Much respect - your soul is a bit older than you are.

Yes music gives musical brains a nice workout.

Led Zepplins "Kashmir" is also about a road trip. Both have classical inspiration.

Great reaction to a great band and a monumental song!

Following a classical style of composition is typical of Prog-Rock. One of the reasons I love it... multiple levels I can enjoy the music on.

You need to checkout their A Capella version of Leave It from Yes. No auto tune. The vocals will blow your mind. Imagine they used their vocals as the instruments.

1972.  A glorious year for amazing music.  I have lived by that all my life.  72 years old now
And it all never gets old.  Professional musicians. That can’t be replaced

YES were GODS. The name suited them perfectly because all their music is very uplifting, positive, musically transcendent & exhilaratingly rich. Their lyrics are often abstract poetically, full of metaphors within non-linear phrasing. Many times, the music and themes are esoterically spiritual in nature.
What a joy to experience someone appreciating their brilliance for the first time vicariously. This song is a great initiation to begin your YES journey into the world of the greatest modern band EVER. A 1971 edited for radio version of 'Roundabout' gave YES, their first big Hit otherwise YES, like most Progressive Rock Bands rarely received airtime on mainstream commercial Rock music stations because the music was often too complex, long and avant-garde. ProgRock often contain elements of Classical, Jazz, Funk, Folk, Ambient & World music with various chords & tempos, transitions, movements, textures, moods and atmospheres.
3-part harmonies: Lead vocalist Jon Anderson doesn't sing in FALSETTO, it's his NATURAL High Alto Voice. Bassist Chris Squire's perfect matching tonal harmonies may at times add falsetto, and guitarist Steve Howe handles the lower range.
Stay with 1970's YES. It's their peak era with these primary virtuoso members.

I kind of chuckled when you said he was using his falsetto during certain parts. Neither Jon Anderson or the other two singers ever used falsetto ~ they just had a very high range.  They would also blast classical music on their own time - as well as jazz, rhythm and blues, rock, etc. probably the most creative group of 25-year-old musicians you’ll ever hear!

A song jam packed with... music. 🙂

The Bass is my favorite bass line EVER!

The first long note is a piano strike played backwards.. so ends with the attack, starts with the decay

Their words don't always mean anything, they use words like an instrument, with rhymes... So unique  SO AWESOME!!!🎵🎵🎶

Wait till she hears Heart of the Sunrise. Or And You and I

I grew up pulling this album out of the paper sleeve, switching the turntable drug 45 RPM to 33 1/3, and absolutely CRANKING up the volume on our stereo. It had 12” woofers, two midrange drivers, and a tweeter in each 3-foot speaker tower. Early ‘80s stereos were just built differently.
