In this video, we take a deep dive into the complete history of the Original family in chronological order across The Vampire Diaries and The Originals universe, following the Mikaelsons from their tenth-century origins all the way to their return in modern-day Mystic Falls and Klaus becoming the Original Hybrid.

The story begins with Esther (Alice Evans) and Mikael (Sebastian Roché), the birth and early lives of the Mikaelson siblings, including Niklaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan), Elijah Mikaelson (Daniel Gillies), Rebekah Mikaelson (Claire Holt), Kol Mikaelson (Nathaniel Buzolic) and Finn Mikaelson (Casper Zafer), their childhood, and the tragedy that ultimately led Esther to transform her family into the world's first vampires.

We explore the creation of the Originals, Klaus' hidden werewolf heritage, the suppression of his werewolf side, and the beginnings of the hybrid curse. The story follows the rise of the Mikaelson sirelines through Lucien (Andrew Lees), Aurora (Rebecca Breeds) and Tristan (Oliver Ackland), their complicated relationships as siblings, and major historical events including the Brotherhood of the Five, the White Oak threat, the Sun and Moon Curse and the story of Katherine Pierce (Nina Dobrev).

We also follow the Mikaelsons through their time in New Orleans, including Marcel Gerard (Charles Michael Davis), Papa Tunde, Mikael's return and the events that shaped the Originals' legacy before their story became connected to Mystic Falls, Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley), Bonnie Bennett's mother Abby (Persia White) and the wider Vampire Diaries timeline.

The second half of the story follows The Return of the Originals, beginning with Elijah Mikaelson's arrival in Mystic Falls as Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), Stefan Salvatore and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) begin to discover the terrifying truth about the ancient vampires hunting the Petrova doppelgänger.

We follow Rose (Lauren Cohan) and Trevor's desperate attempt to escape five hundred years of fear, Katherine Pierce's history with Klaus, the moonstone, the White Oak Ash Dagger and the growing conflict between vampires and werewolves. As the mystery surrounding the Sun and Moon Curse begins to unravel, the truth is finally revealed: Klaus is not simply an Original vampire. He is the son of a werewolf whose werewolf side was magically suppressed, making him the world's first vampire-werewolf hybrid.

Klaus' plan to break the hybrid curse requires the moonstone, a werewolf, a vampire and the Petrova doppelgänger for a deadly sacrifice that threatens Elena and everyone around her. The story follows Klaus' possession of Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis), his return to his original body, Elijah's complicated loyalty to his brother and the desperate battle to stop the sacrifice involving Jenna Sommers (Sara Canning), Jules (Michaela McManus), John Gilbert (David Anders), Caroline Forbes (Candice King), Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) and Jeremy Gilbert (Steven R. McQueen).

It all leads to Klaus finally breaking the curse, activating his werewolf side and becoming the Original Hybrid, while Elijah is forced to choose between killing his brother and discovering what really happened to the rest of their family.

This is the complete story of the Originals so far, connecting the rise of the Mikaelson family, the creation of vampires, their centuries of history, the Petrova bloodline, the Sun and Moon Curse and the return of Klaus and Elijah to Mystic Falls into one continuous timeline. From the birth of the Original vampires to the breaking of Klaus' hybrid curse, this is the story of how one family became one of the most powerful and iconic forces in The Vampire Diaries universe.
