I remember being so stumped on how to get Wario until one day a kid I'd never talked to before overheard me and knew exactly where I was stuck. We were friends the rest of elementary school.

The DS map inclusion made Hazy Mazy Cave feel like being handed a pamphlet for touring the cave, since the map is already plastered on the walls.

The reason so much of the game is brighter or colors swapped is because the LCD of the DS is rather dim in sunlight. The changes help with visibility

The inside of the Igloo is changed because the DS can only render one layer of transparency at a time. Which is also why "In the deep Freeze" was changed, since you wouldn't be able to see anything inside the big ice chunk.

This was the first time I experienced Mario 64 in general. I still remember the days of absolutely believing that Waluigi was in the game.
In a sense, Waluigi in 64DS was the Luigi in 64 for the next generation, and it was a wild thing to experience.
I kinda missed that era of gaming.

I do understand the logic behind making some things easier. Introducing: the DS controls.

More possibly-understood logic is the increased brightness in dark stages. It was made for reflective LCD screens with optional backlights that were manufactured in or around 2004, after all. The game is even one of the few on the DS to contain its own toggle for the backlight. Weirdly, newer DS iterations with non-reflective screens still fully honor that toggle, though being non-reflective screens means that they’re basically as good as off without their backlights, unlike the original DS.

After playing the PlayStation tomb raiders, DS controls don’t even phase me anymore. An awful camera is infinitely worse than Mario 64 with a dpad

I don't necessarily want this game to be remade again, but i want the concept to be revisited. They could give wario justice by changing his style and giving him a dash attack like his land games

I think the reason BoB has a less saturated color scheme is because toy start the game as a green character. The greens get more saturated as you go because if Luigi or Yoshi are hard to see on the small screen, you can just change characters.

I think you're spot on with your ice level vibe thing.

Its in the name, Snow man's land is a pun in "No man's land" after all (At least I like to believe it is)

This was my childhood Mario game, first game I ever 100% completed too. This video was excellent and I am glad I found you even before the whole switch 2 debacle. I'm 27 and really enjoyed this video. Keep em coming!

This video is super duper well make and you deserve so much more attention man, well done.

Don't forget that DS removes invisible walls that plague the last star in hazy maze. Bumping into one would basically just kill you instantly, and it ruined the star.

" If you remember from my previous videos."
I got five plus hours of work to do, I can catch up.....

Snowman's Land's house and igloo were probably changed because they couldn't get multiple transparent layers to sort correctly on the DS. You can see signs of it with Yoshi's ice blocks (Eg. 33:00) and the switches in wet dry world (1:00:23)

Just finished work, got the popcorn ready,  time to binge!

Easily one of my favourite childhood games. Though I got stuck on the last star and I couldn't find it anywhere. I had all course and coin stars and all of the standard secret stars. What I ended up theorising was that I was missing one of the toad stars and that they might have ended up being bugged.

I’m so tired of people dunking on Mario 64 DS. I grew up on it and it was my favourite game growing up. All the new characters they added created so much flavour and the controls weren’t that bad surely.

Very respectable to acknowledge and get the common talk out of the way first.

Mario 64 DS will always have a special place in my heart because it's the only 3D Mario game with Yoshi as a playable character.
