Unpopular RENagade opinion : this is the best song Ren and Chilla have done together. Or possible the best take. The harmonies are just amazing.

I see this song two ways. From the perspective of Ren, who lost his friend and is having trouble  moving forward, but also from the perspective of Joe himself as he struggled. ❤️❤️❤️

He is talking about his friend Joe who committed suicide , Ren tried to save him but arrived at the bridge to late to save him. You should really listen to Rens chapters it will tell you all you  need to know about Rens life after he got sick.IIt is very moving and sad but a must hear to learn what all he went through.

I experience the lyrics as grief. After losing someone i love deeply, the physical surroundings where we used to live together did feel bruised, bruised with memories.

I have watched dozens of reactions to this song the last 2 years, and listened to it over and over a couple hundred times.  Never really got it deeper meaning as I’m hurt not wired for poetry. But when you correlated the inside of his mind to a house, it just all fell in place.  Thanks for your insight!

"For Joe" is a song about his lost friend.

His best mate Joe is a Freckled Angel. Songs, For Joe, Suicide, Freckled Angels, and Mckay is a tribute to another good friend that left also.

For me it is a description of the thoughts of a person in a state of deep depression, near suicidal. And he describing it as a room, and a tomb, I take as his room he was stuck in for years, sick and depressed. He has referred to it before as a tomb. Then in the end he speaks of Joe's suicide, because of the understanding that he must have been in similar state of mind before he took the fatal jump. So that is my understanding of these lyrics, that I relate strongly too, because I suffer from chronic depression. So about himself and then in the end recognizing the similar pain that must have gone through Joe's mind.

I think it’s both - how it imagines Joe felt but also about how grief can makes you feel. A true work of art.

This is the most touching song I've ever heard. Can't help crying every time. Great reaction mate. Keep em coming ❤ 🇦🇷

Ren Makes Music.... Nuff Said!

Really think you need to check out Chinchilla's solo work soon, I know you are going to appreciate how unique and phenomenal her voice is (as we already kniwnfrom these collabs!) and again the variety in the  musical content she is creating. It's no wonder Ren contacted her after hearing her work, wanting her to work with him ❤ I'd recommend any of her songs I've heard but particularly love 1:5 and the live version of her song Fingers.

There's an interview where Ren says the entire song is written from Joe's perspective, except for the last 4 lines, which are from his own.

This can be interpreted in so many ways. Ren has said that it's only the last part that's about Joe. After hearing Ren's story of psychosis in his chapter series, it's exactly how he described it to me. After watching those chapters, his lyrics make much more sense in his music. ❤😊

Dan, your interpretation is so interesting and gives me a whole new way of listening to this song as if it is Joe’s inner dialogue. Thank you!

Is it ‘right’? Well what is ‘right’ in this space. You experience art from where you stand, we are not in the shoes of those who made it and whilst we can try and understand their intentions and motivations the impact it has is ours.

Have courage bud, sharing what this does for you and your interpretation of it gives me far more than if you get it ‘right’.

Fab stuff

One of the best performances!

This is Ren's best song for me. It's almost scary what two ppl and a guitar can do. Appreciate the reactions! 👍

This one always brings the chills and tears.  Thanks so much for the emotional interpretation.  And this song means so much to me as someone who has lost several friends and family members to suicide…. ❤️🎶
