The guy repeating himself at 52:32 is hilarious. He's saying nageguojia 哪个国家 . It just means "what country?". It's funny that he thinks you're going to suddenly speak Chinese if he keeps trying haha
Bro this is very well done - please keep up with this format. Some other Youtubers spend tons of money planning these crazy trips in foreign countries to make content. While Spanian is over here making better content by just arriving in a new town and walking around sorta lost until he gets hungry. Love it. Inspirational.
FYI. When your walking around the slums there is red writing on the wall in a red circle. This says the buildings are marked for demolition. So the place will under go a major change. Its great that you filmed it in its current state. Keep up the great work work.
31:19 The red signs painted on the walls show that the buildings have been scheduled to be knocked down. A common character used is the large red 拆 (chāi), which means "to tear down" or "demolish."
Edit: 52:31 - He asked which country you're from. "Na ge, Guojia?"
Lots of those buildings in the slums had that red Chinese character inside a circle sprayed on them, and some even had dates written next to them. That character means “demolish” in Chinese and since there’s so many and the dates were so recent, it looks like they’re about to redevelop the area
These places are known as urban villages in China. Due to China's rapid development and the rapid expansion of urban construction into the suburbs, some villages that were originally located in the suburbs have been surrounded by new neighborhoods in this process, thus forming the urban villages shown in the video. Many low-income people choose to live in these urban villages. Urban villages generally offer basic public services. However, the village in the picture is in the "relocation" phase, and many people have already moved away. Therefore, it faces a lack of many services, leading to a situation where garbage surrounds the village. 38:30,The red background with yellow lettering on the wall is a demolition mobilization slogan. 41:11,The red sign on the wall with yellow lettering reads, "Renting in demolition areas offers no guarantee of rent or safety." 45:11,The red circle next to the stone lion says "demolish"(拆). 46;23,The red background with yellow lettering on the wall reads:"Calculate the big picture without hesitation; sign early and you'll be happy".The word "demolish"(拆) is written in the red circle on the lower half of the wall. 54:42,Above the blue door behind you is written:“Hualian Urban Village Redevelopment Project”(华里安城中村改造项目),The video shows many buildings with signs saying "Demolition" (拆)written on their exterior walls. So this is a semi-abandoned urban village. These kinds of urban villages exist in China's fastest-growing cities, and perhaps in twenty years, many of them will disappear and be transformed into brand-new neighborhoods.
It is not a slum but an urban village under reconstruction. You can see Chinese character "拆“ on the wall of buildings everywhere, which means "demolition area" Good news for residents there as the local government provides relocation compensation for residents. The compensation depends on the location and how close to the center of the city, may be $21,000 - 35,000$ 元/square meters in main city area.
