The Dark Side of Fragrance Collecting: Whe...
Most fragrance content focuses on what we should buy—but knowing when to let go of a bottle is just as important when building an intentional fragrance collection.
A fragrance doesn’t have to be bad to have finished its time with you. It can be expensive, rare, well-made, or something you once loved and still no longer fit your taste, lifestyle, or collection.
In this video, I explore seven signs that it may be time to let go of a fragrance: repeatedly trying to make it work, leaving it untouched for an entire season, owning something else that always wins, outgrowing it, keeping it for the wrong reasons, feeling overwhelmed by the collection, and realizing its value could serve your life better elsewhere.
These aren’t universal rules. Everyone has a different budget, lifestyle, collection size, and reason for collecting. A bottle can still earn its place through wear, genuine meaning, or a deliberate purpose—and I also discuss the perfectly valid reasons you may want to keep something.
Ultimately, curating a fragrance collection isn’t about reaching the smallest or “perfect” number. It’s about understanding why every bottle is still there.
What fragrance do you already know you should let go of—and what has kept you from doing it?

To stay in my rotation, a perfume either needs to bring something totally unique to the table or genuinely excite me every time I wear it.
When I buy a new bottle, I use it for a month and I I don't like it, I give it three more months to see if i grow to like it (first priority is smell, second is longevity and third but also least important is projection). If I'm not excited to put it on during that time, I sell it.
While decants help for testing, I really enjoy the full bottle experience....the weight, the design, the cap. A scent has to keep my interest to earn a permanent spot.
Because of this rule, I’ve reached a point where every bottle I own is a complete 10/10 (to me obviously). I still get the exact same excitement wearing them today as I did the day I got them.
Because of this, I don't own any "easy/dumb reaches" but luckily I never save my best fragrances for special occasions because I like to believe every day is special enough to wear what I love.
