Scott Gibbs !! What a player !!!

This is the game I played and loved, not the “league” rugby played today. Rucking, players built to play 80 minutes, scrums set immediately, no water breaks, no TMO’s, just honest effort, skill, and sportsmanship. Fantastic stuff.

Super match, so interesting to see how much lighter the packs were back then. So many talented players on both sides. Johnson looked every inch the leader. Dawson’s outrageous dummy!  So good to see Tom Smith in the front row RIP. I think the 97 series breathed new life into the Lions brand. Great to watch.

Newlands the best stadium in the world and always will be lots of memories great games played there

After the Boks won the 1995 RWC the following  2 years were a miserable time for them as world champs. Losing 4 out of 5 tests against the ABs in 96 including a first ever series loss in SA and in 1997 losing to the Lions 2-1.

That was a great South African side.  Not sure why Straueli and Dalton didn't start, but Teichmann was one of the best No. 8s I've ever seen.  With the Rolls Royce of full backs in Joubert, the Lions really did play well.  What are people's opinions of Honiball as a fly-half?

I wish whoever owns the rights to the footage of all matches and the living with the lions (one of the best sports documentaries ever!) would have this re mastered and put onto dvd pr blu ray?

Whoever decided to appoint Carel du Plessis as Springbok coach must have been very ignorant about rugby.

Im not sure how Drotske and Lubbe are on the field ? James Dalton should have started and not sure what the basis was to select Carel du Plessis as coach ? Extremely perplexing.Did he coach one second of any form of rugby to get the job ? EXACTLY.
