This is the best video of all on the history of the M1 cleaning kits on YouTube.  If you pay attention, you'll be able to purchase authentic new old USGI issue gear and have the cleaning kit of your chosen time period.

That yellow grease was at one time, was a white Lithium grease.

Don't forget about the post ww2 issued USMC brass rod and unique combination handle and bolt disassembly tool.  The tool is functionally identical to the M10 but significantly different in construction.   All the rod sections are brass.  The set went inside the buttstock of the M1 and were manufactured by UNIVERSAL ENGINEERING  in California exclusively for a Marine Corps contract.

Glad to see someone covered this very specific topic. Awesome job!

Just got my first garand! This is the video I was looking for! I want my m1 to be complete and you went above and beyond for the viewers! I appreciate this!

Shalom.  Love that cut away butt stock.  Since I was in the USMC from 1969 to 1973, we only used high heat Lubriplate on all our rifles.  I got a grease pot with Lubriplate in it.  I have the M10 cleaning kit with 5 rod sections with the handle/combination tool.  I also got the M3A1 combo tool to clean the chamber.  All of that stuff won't fit in the butt stock.  So I ordered a cleaning pouch to carry on my 1918 khaki pistol belt so I can carry the M3A1 in the butt stock along with the grease.  Cheers from eastern TN

Awesome job! Very handy for those of us young enough to owe everything to those who had to use this to defend our freedom!

You went above and beyond to make this video....thank you for the information!

Excellent.  Very useful.  The visual aid is a great reference.

Thank you for this video! I just acquired a family heirloom from a cousin who was never interested in having it but kept it anyway because our grandfather gave it to him when he was 13 in 1963, the year I was born. It is an International Harvester M1 Garand, made in 1955, best I can tell. In the butt stock are what appears to be the correct M3A1 combination tool (marked "KRW") and four of the little grease pots of the WWII "Lubriplate" variety. That's it, so it got very confusing trying to figure out exactly what I need to make the cleaning kit correct and complete, and how to properly install it! It looks like all I need are the rod kit and patch, and the correct later grease pot if I want to get really thorough. Thanks again, much appreciated!

Norwich Thank's AGAIN !! your the best .

Very nicely done!  I love the cut-away from a broken stock.  Perfect.  I get these questions all the time and you answered it in one video, less than 9 mins.  Collectors want the cleaning kit that is correct for their rifles, and shooters want the best kits to clean their guns.  You knocked it outa the park!

This video helped a lot, thanks

I actually used the ratcheted chamber brush for the first time recently and had to use a cleaning rod to extract it from the chamber pushing from the muzzle, I think I'll use my old method from now on.

Thanks man. Just bought a original cleaning kit (that because of you I now know is from the 50’s) for my old warhorse from 49’ and you saved me the trouble of finding out what’s the right way to put the cleaning rods in.

Excellent.   Thank you.

A. Superb video

What a great video; well done on that buttstock!

Thinks for the info. I'm missing the tubes

Thanks for making this! Good stuff!
