Michèle Mouton is a madwoman. These days she's in charge of security for rally events, she's the one making sure that people don't crowd the sides of the tracks. Probably one of the best person for this job as she was the one narrowly avoiding them when she was in that Audi Quattro decades ago :p

Rallying—and motor sports in general—is very popular in Finland. More success the Finnish drivers have had, the more populariry the sport has gained, and in rallying the Finns have had quite a lot of it. There's even a saying "If you want to win, get a Finn". Also during the Group B era the Finnish drivers were in the heart of it—also sadly dramatically so. Finnish driver Henri Toivonen's and his American co-driver Sergio Cresto's fatal accident was the last straw, which ended to the Group B era. According to the drivers, the main problem in Group B was that some of those classic rallies and their stages weren't fit for such powerful and demanding to drive cars—the cars grew out of those roads. And obviously in some rallies the spectator safety was non-existing—as shown in the video. In this video two of the Finnish drivers talk about the era: "Juha Kankkunen ja Markku Alén muistelevat hurjia rallin B-ryhmän aikoja (Teknavi 2019)". Here Henri Toivonen's brother Harri talks about him. Jyväskylä city is Finland's Rallying Mecca: "WRC Rally Heroes - Harri Toivonen pays tribute to his brother Henri". As you asked what possesses drivers drive cars like those, the best answer I've heard given is in this video about another Finnish driver and world champion, Ari Vatanen: "Ari Vatanen - The Poet of Rallying". The person, who edited that video, has insight to rallying. He has also edited this documentary of the world of rallying. If I'd compare rallying to some other sport, I'd compare it to slalom: "Rally: The Great Adventure".

10:39 From what i know, Michelle grew up in a racing family, with her siblings and extended family involved in racing all the way down so as to encourage her as a child racing Go-Karts.
She's still around, and her stories are great.

Definitely dangerously stupid but some of the coolest races ever!! My mom and dad went to the Tour de Course rally in ‘85 on their Europe trip and he almost got hit multiple times with some of the craziest snapshots ever

The thing you think looked like a cave is the Monte Carlo rally stage, at the start it goes up into the mountains, its held every year in January.

Have you seen the Isle of Man TT race?

Amazing how rally drivers use both feet on those pedals... They even use at times the brake and accelerator at the same time for some corners.

should watch the Le Mans crash from 1955... or the Isle of man TT

12:06 I mean, were you really using that pinkie for anything anyway?

Like in ancient Rome: Die. Is what Sport!

The drivers were absolute masters, but you have to keep in mind that the old organizers and bosses were still WW2 vets.
Nowadays driving Rally is safer than staying at home, speak more drivers were dying early becasue of usual reasons than while driving.

Lucy Block drives in rally... and I think her daughter Lia started to again.

Your audio is looping so it sounds like it has an echo which is awful to listen

Peak of b group  0-100km/h rallycar was faster then f1car

That was not a Porsche 959, and even if it were, it wouldn't have any right being there. Unless Eric Bana was driving it.
And if 5000 Stratos' were made, I would have owned one.
These videos are often so full of 💩
