In the heart of Phase One of Mehrshahr, Karaj, surrounded by lush greenery, elegant villas, and a peaceful-and-unhurried atmosphere, there is a welcoming Persian restaurant with a story of its own. Babaji is a 1960s-inspired Iranian restaurant where the talented young chef Solaleh brings traditional Persian home cooking to life. From the moment you walk in, the aroma of authentic homemade Iranian food fills the air, creating the feeling of stepping into a nostalgic Persian home.
Babaji’s kitchen is led by Solaleh, a passionate young-and-talented Iranian chef who prepares the food with remarkable speed, precision, and love. Her friend Erfan works beside her in the kitchen, while her cousin Saba brings orders to the tables. Despite the demanding pace, the team treats everyone as a guest rather than a customer. That philosophy makes Babaji feel less like a restaurant and more like a safe, welcoming neighborhood hangout.
The warmly-nostalgic space is inspired by Iran in the 1960s, with four tables inside and two on a charming, beautifully flower-filled balcony. Guests come to slow down, enjoy homemade food, and feel at home. For regulars, Babaji has become a deeply-comforting local refuge, a familiar gathering place where conversations, shared meals, and genuine Iranian hospitality come together naturally.
The food is at the heart of Babaji. Ghormeh Sabzi is one of the highlights, with its rich herbal aroma and slow-cooked flavor. The kitchen also serves fragrant Gheymeh Nesar, Loobia Polo, Adas Polo, and Zereshk Polo with chicken, bringing the familiar flavors of traditional Persian cooking to the table. For a rustic taste, guests can enjoy Mirza Ghasemi, Kebab Tabei, and crispy Kotlet, while homemade Halva adds a sweet finish. Each recipe is prepared with the care and familiar flavors of a Persian family kitchen, making the food feel personal, comforting, and genuinely homemade. Every morning, Solaleh prepares traditional Persian breakfasts, putting her creativity, precision, and deep knowledge of Iranian cuisine into every dish.
Babaji welcomes guests for lunch and dinner and is open every day from 8 a.m. to midnight. With exceptional food, an intimate and welcoming atmosphere, genuine hospitality, and Solaleh’s remarkable talent, this little neighborhood restaurant in Mehrshahr offers a memorable taste of the warmth, flavor, and tradition of Persian food.
