Not only a video you can fall asleep to, one that will still be going in the morning

"Machine gun Willy...guess what he likes to use as his weapon. Its a sword! (Nah, its his name sake)"

...h...his willy!?

"Get down here and fight like a man!"
"I don't suppose I could convince you to come up here and fight like a spider?"

To answer the question at 3:43:38 - The Spectrum has a fixed 16-colour palette: Black, Blue, Red, Magenta, Green, Cyan, yellow, and White, and then half-intensity versions of those for 15 usable colours (as half black is still black). The problem is you can only use two colours in the same cell, an 8x8 region of the screen. This is why everything looked 'background coloured' in DD1 for the Spectrum, and why DD2 just went monochrome for the playfield.

As for the Double Dragon Zeebo ending (8:01:33), it translates as follows:
Willy falls lifeless as his power leaves his body. The Kingdom of the Shadow Knights has been dismantled by the two brothers. They restored the so much needed hope to New York City. In the years to come, a better future will continue to be built thanks to (their) triumphant and brave success, which resulted in the vanishing of our heroes. The vanishing of Billy, Jimmy and Marian still remains a mystery. The brothers left nothing behind, but the legend of their sake.

Marian being punched and kidnapped is to Double Dragon what the scene of Bruce Wayne's parents being murdered is to the Batman series.

"Guess what weapon he likes to use...it's his namesake." Great. Gotta fight someone brandishing their willie.

Wow Matt! I personally thank you for all of the time and effort you put into all of your videos. This video is a gem of gems!

Thanks for the big opportunity to assist with editing this BEHEMOTH, Matt!

Editor lore: I had played quite a few of the Double Dragon games myself. DD1 on both the arcade and DD1X360, the iOS remake (from a school classmate that had it) and DD Neon!

When I was little I imagined Linda had one of those chains that keeps you from stealing the pen at the bank.

I'm sure someone has already pointed this out, but there IS a kitty in Double Dragon for the NES. It's under the table when you rescue Marian at the end of the game :)

-- That was amazing. Most creative detail: Lady Liberty's head on the Empire State Building like a shishkebab.

As someone who doesn't have a lot of experience with Double Dragon this was a great way to see the series throughout the years. Congrats to you on pulling off such a monumental feat.

When discussing Abobos design, one of the guys who worked on the fan game Abobos big adventure then went on to work on the river city girls games and got to redesign Abobo!
In Big adventure it was based on the NES sprite so for cutscenes they interpreted it by giving him big mustache with black eyes and bought that design to River city girls, becoming the official canon design!

@muthesquirrel 3 years ago

The 'mi' in 'Mibobo's name stands for 'midori', Japanese for green. While you never see it, other Abobos of various colours are also named like that as well as the famous afrobobo, but I think Mibobo is the only other one named in game. :p

If anything this really shows how Double Dragon is probably the most mismanaged IP in gaming history.

The ZX-Spectrum could be a wonderful thing, but as an owner, the first thing you learned was never to buy any game that claimed to be based on an arcade machine.
