I’m a 70 year old American who’s always loved British decorating. This is such a treat!

Somehow England is able to keep the tradition while adding glorious beautiful colors.

Thank you for going back to talk with Charlotte some more. She is an absolute gem! Her descriptions of how to layer pattern and build a room is priceless. And I LOVE her wallpaper and fabrics! She has such a good eye for design and working with color. Be well and bless you both.

I’m an American with a love for English/early American interiors, layered with family things (my family has been in America since the 1560’s) and timeless, yet fun, fabrics and wallpapers.  I’ve always loved my Southern grandmother’s aesthetic of trimmed window coverings and handmade lampshades. Back in the 1980’s I was considered slightly old fashioned (if not eccentric 😂) but it was what I liked, what brought me joy, so I stuck to my guns. Now I’m a grandmother (!)  and I’m always amused at the young people who gush over my style, and want to take pictures of it.  So now that I’m old, my style isn’t.  Irony.

I tell them: Do you. Decorate how you like, collect what you love. Use the colors that make you happy, but also be true to the architecture and remember the light.  Interior design is like garden design; it’s both a form of self expression, and a way to bring beauty into a world that needs all it can get. ❤🇺🇸❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿❤️

BTW, I very rarely ask anyone for their opinion, unless it’s my husband.  (But I retain the deciding vote. )

If I was describing what is quintessentially English decorating, I’d say, “layered”.  Layered by generations of collecting, decorating, adding, handing down.

It was only a brief glimpse,  but the hallways of the house are absolutely stunning ❤

I so much agree with you and Charlotte, Kirsten, about granny chic, it is so much more cozy and lovely and feels like you never get bored with it.

I love British design in anything ! Call it home decoration, fashion...anything and everything !

Such a treat to visit her beautiful home once again! 🙏🏻❤️

One word for the quintessential English style....Welcoming

I call this video “Quintessentially Kirsten.”😊

Beautiful dress, Kirsten. You look fabulous.

Kirsten, I really understand that you feel like being in the decor heaven. Knowing your home, this gets absolutely clear.❤❤❤

Thank you Kirsten & Charlotte for creating this quick & amazing Quintessential British Interior design tips & guidelines! I think it brings more charm, coziness and warmth, feels like the room is hugging you.... compare to going into a minimalist room or house, which feels empty & cold with no soul :)
.

I love Charlottes fabrics and her style. Her mood boards are such a creative process and fun to see.

I love Charlotte's style and themes. I could listen to you both chat for hours. ❤

English decor is truly special.  The beautiful patterns always look like a party was throw up around the room.  Much more fun than modern decor with lots of solid grays!  Thanks so much for the great video!

What a beautiful and inspiring video. Thank you so much for creating it. Both you ladies are extremely talented. I loved everything about the rooms. Living in America, we have what we call Yard Sales. They are fabulous. They usually happen on Fridays and Saturdays. People put out the things that they no longer want and most usually sell out of everything. When my husband and I were first married, of course our finances were not always the best. So we bought many things used from friends or at Yard Sales. As they say ‘one man’s junk, is another man’s treasure’ I believe it is so true and such fun to find. So our house is full of beautiful quality wood furniture. Our style is called ‘traditional’ here in the US and we love it. When I look at what people are buying today It makes me kind of sad. It does not last. Usually within five to eight years it is broken junk. So then you’ve got to get something new. So we are a fan of traditional, what I think you all are calling old! 😂 I always enjoy your posts and today was even better, if that can be, the usual. Thank you.

Beautiful dress you are wearing❤

Thank you for visiting Charlotte Gaisford again. She is charming and very inspiring. It was so much fun having a peak at her house. It is so cosy !

How very fun ! I love to hear designers (especially English) discuss the "British" style. Thank you for sharing your experience.
