I have some relevant experience of a Nissan LEAF and our family has obtained a new 2025 model Spring Extreme, couple weeks ago here in the UK.  

The Leaf burned thro its 30kWh in 45 minutes, at 70 ish mph or 112kmh.  Four up with luggage.  Much bigger heavier car.  9 plus hours to do a 250 mile journey our diesel Volvo or Passats, took in their stride.  Had i known this, we’d never have done the journey.  My offspring now double the age then, say it’s seared into their memory.  Horror show because we only had a weekend to do it in - think about it!

Our daughter’s Dacia Spring from your tests, would suffer the same phenomenon if pushed to 75 mph or 120kmh ish, it is a known thing with a name i forget!

Basically, a battery has a ‘comfortable’ level of drain at which it performs ‘normally’ and beyond that, ie driving at 75mph not 60mph or less, heat is generated as you suck energy out too fast for the battery.

Broadly, we could say if your Dacia Spring is straining the battery, it wouldn’t be if the battery were twice the size.  The weight penalty is almost nothing by comparison to over-draining the battery.

In short, simply having a 50kWh battery instead of a 25kWh, would mean at 75mph you would still be up at 4.25 miles per kWh, not suffering that heating waste as the battery is drained too fast.

Also small stumpy cars or motorcycles have poor aerodynamics, as we all know.  The coming Mona is the opposite, it may beat 7 miles per kWh.  But it will be more money and not to put too much emphasis on looks and aesthetics, our daughter would never buy a beige Mona over this neat little ‘red brick’ colour SUV-looking Spring.  

Lastly it’s a very lovable cheaper little car.  The 2CV was, and this is.  Poor crash test results in the past but beats a scooter or rustbucket with no ABS?  Or a friend who is a one star driver in a five star car?!  Good review, thanks.

We do mixed town and motorway driving and since the end of March, the Spring averages about 8.7km/kwh (converted from miles) which would give a range of around 200km on a full charge.  We average about 125miles which is around 200km so long term use confirms the tests here.  Key thing with the Spring is ECO on all the time and really light acceleration wherever possible and don't exceed 90km/h, and bet yourself to keep the power meter inside the eco window on the dashboard.  Also the 100%-80% is logarithmic but from 80% to 15% it is a fairly predictable 1% per mile or 1.6km per % of battery use.  Heater kills the range, air con doesn't really have much of an impact in our experience.  Greta little cheap city car but I wouldn't want to drive across Europe in it but its fine around town and an hour to the seaside but not much more.  You get what you pay for and as a second car, it takes some beating.

this is great. A while ago I stopped driving 120km/ph because it’s only around 5min different from the arrival time your gps predicts. I started going only 100km/ph and it only has advantages s.a. driving on the right lane all the time.. thus not having to pay attention as much as you would when driving in the other lanes, faster reaction time in general and just driving relaxed. This Dacia is gonna be my first EV and im really excited. Knowing im gonna be able to get the reach out of it I’ll need. is great. WHEN I go on the highway it’s most likely to do 97km. So that won’t be a problem. Thanks for the review :D

Surely a 50 kmph range test is the most appropriate for a city car and would likely yield the best results!

WLTP is not a highway consumption test. It's an average of different speeds - consumption test. Why is it so hard for reviewers to understand.
For a city car 50 km/h would be a more realistic average speed. With the given results 220 km then should be attainable.
