This was one of 3 songs that were live recordings for the album from a show at 1st Avenue. Prince went through and tweaked it. Prince was known for doing one take for his albums. He preferred the urgency and emotion from the first take over perfection.

"PurpleRain" is recorded live, It always has been, here and in the album. There's not a studio version.
And every time he played it it changed something. I mean as in the rest of his wide catalogue, because he wrote, played and recorded the songs himself so he could change the tone, the tempo, the lyrics, he replace solos with new ones, mix some rhythm parts with other songs, etc. When he played live he was "DJing the band" live, at the moment, right in front of you. He was and he will be the F GOAT.

The fact that the Purple Rain we listen to everyday in our phones or computers is recorded live and not a studio never fails to amaze me. So much heart and soul that we can hear and feel it every minute

Thank God they didn’t have auto tune back then. That’s why this has heart and passion rather than perfection. Prince had the skills but also the artistry.

I just subscribed!

Prince was fantastic! He could play every instrument in the band and on a lot of songs (particularly early in his career), he would write the song, play all the instruments, sing all the parts, and produce the songs! He had all the ladies back in the day even though the men thought he was gay (which he wasn’t). He just knew the secret to getting the ladies and boy…did he ever! 🤣

Please do more Prince! Have you heard:

2004 Hall of Fame Inductee set. He did a medley of about 3-4 songs and it’ll show what a great band leader he was.

1991 live Special Olympics, BABY I’M A STAR/PUSH

1987 ITS GONNA BE A BEAUTIFUL NIGHT, from the Sign o the Times concert movie. It’s filled with energy and you’ll see Prince play the drums with his drummer, Sheila E, rapping some.

The VANGUARD AWARDS, in the 90’s where Prince was getting the lifetime award. He sung, conducted his band, had about 3 guest singers in this performance.

Any of the 1991 Arsenio Hall live performances. He did 4 that night.

The 2007 Super Bowl halftime show where he performed in the rain,

Nice review, you managed to capture the emotion that many of us Prince fans feel. Please do another Prince reaction, he was very versatile and and incorported many different genres into his playing. Maybe find a song of his that covers a genre that you vibe with.

Fantastic reaction!

I love your knowledge about music. And, you're were very perceptive about Prince's performance, movie and music.

No matter what you say in a reaction, cruelty is never warranted.

Prince fans are the best fans! ✊🏾

I'd like your transparency and your wisdom about music.

I just subscribed. I hope that you reward us with more Prince reactions.

I highly recommend his LIVE performances.

For us to watch you be a firsthand witness of his unfiltered talent in front of a welcoming audience.

Check out his Cream live performance.

But my favorite is his Baby I'm a Star/Push opening ceremony of the 1991 International Special Olympics.

Wishing you only success on your channel. Good luck!

This video is from the film. It would be really great if you could react to him performing this song live in concert. I recommend checking out the first time he performed this live after the album and film release at the American Music Awards (AMAS 1985) or the live performance ‘Prince and the Revolution Live Syracuse 1985’. Both are iconic moments and his sound is even better live … even better than the recorded track. He does go all in on stage .😊

If you watch the Super Bowl halftime performance you will see him win over the whole crowd to sing the outro. In the rain. Totally live. Amazing! He always asked the crowd to make music with him. Which I loved.

Great reaction. I'm from the great state of Minnesota. Let's get some more Prince. If you've not already seen them, some Prince songs/videos you might enjoy include (but are not limited to) : "1999", "Little Red Corvette", and "Delirious" from the 1999 album; "The Beautiful Ones", "Let's Go Crazy", "Computer Blue", and "When Doves Cry" from the Purple Rain album; "Starfish And Coffee", "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man", and "Adore" from the Sign of the Times album; "Blue Light" from the Love Symbol album; "The Ride" from the Crystal Ball album; "Colonized Mind" from the LOTUSFLOW3R album; and "Musicology" and "Call My Name" from the Musicology album. If you've not already seen them, some live performances you might enjoy include (but are not limited to) : the piano medley from the Lovesexy tour, the medley of "Play That Funky Music/Hollywood Swinging/Fantastic Voyage" from Inglewood, the performance of "Motherless Child" from the Spanish TV show Septimo, the Santana medley from GlamSlam Miami, "America" (live 1985), the performance of "A Love Bizarre" with Sheila E. from San Francisco, the performance of "Bambi" from Tokyo, the performance of "Empty Room" from Montreax, the acoustic performance of "Cream" from Webster Hall, the cover of "Creep" from Coachella, the performance of "7/Come Together" from Coachella, and the performance of "Purple Rain" from the 1985 Syracuse concert. The Syracuse performance has a lengthy intro and is 16 minutes long, but I think you'll find it's worth it. Again, great reaction. Let's get some more Prince.

Personally, I love crossing paths with anyone who is open to Prince and curious to learn more (or at least receptive to me talking their ear off about how incredible and impressive Prince was and his music still is!). I can't speak for other Prince fans but I have no expectations that you should know any details. Many of us are more than happy to contribute to your education along your Prince journey, whether it's just a video or a full deep dive down the rabbit hole that is Prince's vast catalog.
I like the head tattoo! You wear it well.
