Another Brick wasn't anti-education so much as anti-indoctrination and has to be taken in the context of the whole album.

"Every Breath You Take". A song about an obsessed stalker played as a love song at proms and weddings,

Tipper Gore was an uppity slag. Fun fact, Tom Morello's (Rage Against the Machine) mom formed an anti-censorship group for musicians. May she RIP.

Dee Snyder testified before congress regarding the rating system...definitely worth watching...
Also a few years ago Dee Snyder redid We're Not Going to Take It as a piano ballad to benefit children's cancer research... its beautiful (hard video to watch though)

Tipper Gore was absolutely horrific! She was leading the witch hunt against music to try and silence a generation!

Brick in the Wall wasn’t satire. We don’t need no education was about indoctrination and how the “system” broke down children.

I was a teen in the 70’s. I was in my 20’s in the 80’s. 2 of the best decades.

I think it's hilarious how SOOO many people say they didn't know what a lot of songs were talking about...I definitely knew.

The outrage was mostly politicians and talking heads talking among themselves. The general population didn't give a shit. Some of the songs still hit the charts and sales still soared. The Gores were nuts both Al and Tipper yet the machine still tried to shove Al down Americas throats

Like a Virgin absolutely should’ve been on this list.

17:54 the lyrics are what makes 80's songs so great! The more they tried to ban songs the more we listened to it! We had been left alone our entire childhood & then they wanted to start telling us what we could or could not listen to as teens. That did not go well... 🤭

My parents were the ones who introduced me to Prince

I'm Gen-X, my parents never really knew the music I listened to. I was 14 when I bought my first album, Nevermind the Bullocks by the Sex Pistols.
I'm surprised Sheena Easton wasn't on this list with her songs Sugar Walls or Strut. Great songs, by the way.

My favorite reaction when folks realize what's ACTUALLY being sung is "Lola" by the Kinks.
So catchy.
So easy to sing along to.
So easy to completely miss the meaning.
Until one day........

Wait a...
What did he just say...?
Waaaiiitttttt.... so that means......
So, Lola's a .........? 😳🤯

@12:02 that's Ozzy's son Jack Osbourne in the video. If you watch/listen to Jack's podcast, you'll see that is one of his favorite memories.

Madonna and Prince ruled MTV in the early years. As a kid, we were glued to the tv. Prince had a whole catalog of provactive songs before he broke through the pop charts. Kids at the skating rink would share the meaning of the lyrics with us. I was a huge fan of GNR as a teenager, listening through every song on Appetite for Destruction, but disturbed by the album art inside the cover. When GNR Lies came out, it took a different turn, more acoustic and raw. I remember that song One in a Million. The lyrics threw me off because in Gen X's time, we hadn't practiced hate speech. And that George Michael song, his image started to get more erotic after Wham broke up. We all liked that jam.

17:49 There were two music videos for RELAX. The first was banned in the states so they shot a more G rated video

In truth, Dee Snyder , of Twisted Sister and the late late great Frank Zappa were really the most active in the fight against free expression. And Zappa had always been ringing that bell.

I remember all the urban legends behind “In the air tonight” by Phil Collins. We 100% thought it was the truth at the time.

I was also surprised that Madonna wasn't on the list. What I find hilarious is that I remember my 8th grade teacher in a religious school teaching an aerobics class that used "Physical." I understand why I didn't get it, but I find it hilarious that she didn't.
