This is 💯 the right take: Adsense  shouldn’t be the goal for us creators - it’s not a viable revenue strategy anyway unless your subs are over a million. The focus should be on making videos that people love to watch / find useful / enjoyable + promoting your creative business is what matters ❤ thank you for this thoughtful commentary!

You are correct! YouTube doesn’t want to pay anyone. It’s typical corporate greed. Unfortunately the people who watch won’t get the big change. I know some people just made their own websites and started newsletters and podcasts because they didn’t like the YouTube corporate. But most people would not find you as easily. Others switch to all Patreon. It’s a mess. I’m sorry.

I watch YouTube purely for crafty entertainment while I’m crafting away. I love your channel and found the information interesting even though I will never have my own channel :)

I appreciate hearing this. I've toyed with the idea of starting a channel just to document my crafting process. In this way, if someone wants to know why a handwoven rug or crocheted lace cardigan costs so much, they can see the time and effort that gets put into it.

I am anti slop too, so I truly hope that it goes away in the art and craft sphere.
Your pumpkin plant is beautiful!

That fabric is gorgeous!
Over the last 20 years Australia has lost most of our independent fabric shops and only have a couple of chains left - and one of those is closing it's shops and going online only. I am so jealous of the fabrics I see people in UK and Europe have access to.

Side note from someone used to vegie gardening in heatwaves over 40C - if you want edible pumpkins you'll need to water your plants. A deep watering a couple of times a week is most effective.

I'm laughing out loud... I only found your channel today because I have been trying to educate myself about these new EU rules on recycling that seem to really have hit small genuine handcraft businesses. As you show your fabric, that lovely William Morris style floral... I am cross stiching something almost identical, only in dark blue background and colder more "Tudor" style colours. Thank you for sharing your work - it is really very lovely, original and I love the high quality of your finishes.

The owlcat is an adorable familiar and the floral fabric is beautiful.  Love popping in for your coffee and craft chats, informative in a pleasant way.

This is such a good video. My main channel got monetised three years ago and it makes less than £20 per month from Adsense... but people buy my sewing patterns and online workshops via the videos I have on it, and that is worth more than the pennies each video earns from Ads. If anyone has a product (physical or digital) based business, YouTube is still one of the best ways to build an audience and get sales.

I have a carabiner clip on my purse so it easily clips onto keys or key chains.  Best addition, would recommend to everyone! 😊

First time watcher. I am a crochet lover and I like to support people in the community so you have my sub and I have watched to the end. ❤ love the oak leaves and the fabric is beautiful. 💚🧡🤎

I was actually planning to get back to my channel and I didn’t know about the changes. It makes me so sad, but really i wasn’t going for the money so your pep talk really helped me stay positive even though i doubt I’ll ever be monetized. I’ve watched you for many years now and am always a fan !

This is very insightful and inspiring. Also, your pumpkin plants (both of them) are beautiful and also a great metaphor for like in general. Focus on resiliency and you can withstand a lot ❤❤

Thank you - its nice to hear what I thought was true from someone else :)

Thank you for this amazing video. I've felt negative about all these changes as I am thinking about starting a YouTube channel for my business; however, you've reinforced the original thought I had about starting one, which is to use it as a tool. Love those keychains btw, and love how you come across on camera. Definitely a new subscriber and viewer here!

That pumpkin plant analogy is so good! I was thinking your indoor pumpkin plant is sort of like the trees in Biodome 2 that grew fast but had no strength because they weren't exposed to wind like regular trees.

And yes! We have until 1 Feb to really make a splash. Let's go!

I didn't know I needed a bag familiar until today;) I love the wink about "familiar" audience. I'm your audience.

I love your channel! And what you said-your business first. YouTube second. 😊

I really appreciate your perspective! I was definitely feeling a bit crummy about the change. I have a small channel that I had to pause to try and get my life together lol (in this day and age not a chance) but I finally started to feel a bit put together and gearing up for market season when the change came out.
I thought my only option was to try and do a push to get monetized but I feel like that would be too much to juggle. I think you're right though even if I don't get monetized I will still have my channel regardless and I'll be no worse off then I am now! 😊
Thank you for posting your thoughts and crafts! Love the leaves!

Well said, and I agree.
While this is more strict, I don't think people should have ever relied on just YT, especially if you have a business. The rules change every year, and what could be allowed one year will get you banned 5 years later. Several people I watch break down their numbers each year, and YT itself is constantly on the lowest end, but what it does is funnel to their products.

I'm just going off memory (which we all know is bad) but one made <$300 a month with 100K+ subs. Everything else came elsewhere.
