Long time giallo fan. Since 2004. The Red Queen Kills Seven Times is good, but never been a go to. But still good.
For at least 10 years now I've been wanting to watch Mozart is a murderer, since I love Sergio Martino. Torso and Case of the scorpions tail are probably my two favorite giallo movies all time. Then Corruption of Chris Miller, Eyeball, and Tropic of cancer. So those are my top 5 favorite giallo movies. Of course I love Don't torture a duckling, Deep red, Bay of blood, Knife of ice, etc.
Earlier this year I finally watched it and ....the TV movie kind of ruins it and also kind of helps it.
The movie's biggest flaw is the police officer where it just feels way too out of place. Not what I am use to. It just felt off, the entire film felt off. Maybe because it's "too modern". I don't know.  Literally all I can remember is boring scenes of the detective in his normal life and the ending with the killer reveal.

"Butt his just feels, it feels like an episode of a TV crime show" I think that is it, that is exactly it. It just feels more like your average, generic TV crime show, not a giallo movie. At least for the majority. Only around the very ending did it finally start feelings like a giallo movie. Very similar to Knife+Heart. Where it doesn't feel like a giallo what so ever, until the killer reveal.

Oh and you forgot to mention another Sergio Maritno giallo movie he made in the 70s; Suspicious death of a minor. Which is pretty underrated as a Martino giallo.
Just gave it a rewatch 2 weeks ago. I've watched it probably around 7 times by now.

By the way, the killer's reveal and motive and backstory is kind of similar to The fish with the golden eye.
So let me SPOIL it for ya. The movie starts out at a beach and this random guy in a swimsuit swims onto the beach and immediately stabs a woman before diving back into the ocean to escape. Especially when the killer realizes there is a witness. The witness walks over to the woman and sees her dead beneath a towel which is decorated with fish swimming among seaweed. We learn in the killer reveal that this was a totally different murder that had nothing to do with the following murders and in fact the witness who saw the first murder was triggered to go on a killing spree because when he was a child he saw his father brutally stab and murder his mother and during the murder a fish bowl has spilled over and so fish were flopping around around the mother as she was being stabbed to death. So that damn towel, man. If only she had a floral pattern or some shit instead of fish then all these other people wouldn't of been killed. That damn fish towel got people murdered. See, this is why we need to censor towels, make them as bland and generic and no patterns allowed, in case they accidentally trigger somebody to kill people. Because hey, "We got to be socially responsible" and if you make these towels with creative patterns on it, then your a scumbag, Your a scumbag if you think we should have "freedom" for towel design. Your pro murder and I'm not, I'm more morally superior than you!!!!!!! How can you say we should have towel designs if they can POTENTIALLY lead to murder?!!??!?!?!?!??! What about the POTENTIAL RISK???!!?!?!?!?!?!?

The movie [the fish movie] also blatantly rips off several other giallo movies. It's biggest rip off is when the movie down right plagiarizes a murder sequence from So sweet so dead. Even the poster for the movie is down right plagiarism. The poster is basically the Knife of ice poster with Carrol Baker; who is NOT in the movie by the way. But according to the poster she is.
It was one of those super rare and obscure giallo movies I have been searching for and dying to see "maybe a hidden gem" and I can see why it's so obscure. But it aint terrible. I've seen far far worse. Like Amer and The skin under the claws. Those two are absolute trash. I rather watch Who killed the prosecutor and why? Obsession: A taste for fear, and or Cross current than Amer and The skin under the claws.

Now now Joseph, I think you need to share credit with Nathan on the creation of the "Selfish Relative" subgenre because if not for him making Old Federal Massacre 2, we would not have that glorious phrase available to us in the first place.  Also, it might be too early into the episode but I am admittedly a little bit sad that you all didn't work in a "It's y'all's turn!" in somewhere as well.  Oh well.  Can't have it all, heheh.  All the same, an enjoyable episode for the start of the spoopy season.
