It’s actually simple, take playing an online game, for example. If a player is caught red-handed cheating but is allowed to keep playing without any punishment or just receives a slap on the wrist I’ll simply walk away and never play that game again, because playing it would just be a waste of time.
Totally agree. But you are also forgetting Leicester City, who were deducted 6 points for 1 offence, which cost them a later relegation from the Championship to League 1 last season. We all want proportionate justice.
If I were the chairman of a so called 'smaller' club, Everton, Villa, Brighton Brentford etc (no offence) I'd vote along with the big boys to kick them out because it gives my club more chance of Europe and more money. I'd still like someone to explain why losing City would affect the rest of the league financially anyway, suppose they finished bottom because they were crap would they avoid relegation because of the financial loss ~ utter bollocks imho.
Questions need to be asked about how City could get Erling Haaland so cheaply . They say they paid just 60 million Euros for him, plus another 20 million Euros in add on's , yet his value at the time of his signing was around 150 million Euros. And he was still under contract with Dortmund at the time. Something stinks here
The greatest fault lays with PL management. They had to know about this orgy of abuse, for 9 years. And did nothing. Only after publication in foreign press PL reluctantly started to act. Managers of PL are equally responsible. They enabled this abuse.
60 point deduction for 4 consecutive seasons. No player purchases for 4 years. Leave the rest - we all know that the achievements are meaningless now, so I don't see the point - just scrub the name off the records. Wouldn't bother with compensation claims - the only people to gain from that will be lawyers. Love to be an LFC fan at the weekend - have fun guys.
Relegated to the lowest tier in the football league, transfer ban for 9 years, stripped of their titles for the last 9 years and a huge fine. In addition there should be a 30 point deduction this season, so they can not win the league title this year.
I can remember Cities cheating was being talked about over 10 years ago around my local pubs, why is it that everybody saw how obvious it was but the league didn't, it was as plain as the nose on your face right from their takeover.
The penalties to be meted out has to fit the crime. Cheating is fraud. My list: 1. Strip all titles for the 9-year period. The respective title to be handed over to the 2nd place and it is for the 2nd place to decide if they accept or reject. 2. As the advantage gained continued beyond the 9-year period, this has to be settled somehow or another round of litigation before another Independent Commission. 3. Financial penalties (reparations) to be made by City to all affected clubs, not just the 5 clubs that preserved their rights because of the Limitation Act's limit of 6 years. Note, a sham contract is fraud and fraud has no limitation period. 4. Transfer bans for at least 4 seasons; max 5 seasons. 5. Must sell players at the next transfer window. Use the adjusted revenues (less sham revenues). A certified public accountant will be able to adjust the books and figure out what could be spent to buy players and the wages. 6. Clubs to vote on expulsion. Set a date of 2 weeks after the appeal is decided upon (expected Jan 2027). If no expulsion, 50 points deduction for the current season and succeeding 2(min) or 3(max) seasons that City is in the Premier League going forward.
The fact that they did not cooperate throughout the entire process, can only mean one thing. Mega money totally corrupts and an appropriate punishment must have multi-year knock-on effects, if the competition ever expects to get back to the way it was. I think all past trophies should be stripped and the titles left vacant, as a stark reminder! I'd like to see 40+ points deductions for at least 5 seasons, but I wouldn't mind if they were expelled completely, along the lines of Lance Armstrong and others...
Don't forget managers bonuses, players bonuses, managers getting sacked and compensation, the cost of scouting new replacements for over inflated prices and wages that happen because of city.
Only solution here is to completely liquidate the club. There’s no other punishment imaginable that would do justice to the sheer amount of fraud they done. It’s over, dissolve it all.
