My husband died 19 months ago from fibrosis of the lungs caused by what doctors believed was an autoimmune process. He was confined to his recliner that last year and a half of his life. He was on hospice for 4 months and died at home. I held him as he took his last breath. He was 64 and I was 63. We had been married 2 1/2 months short of 45 years. We had been together our whole adult lives, grew up together and I do not know how to live without him. The scene in this documentary that got me the most is when Ellie is standing alone on the front porch after Stephen's body had been taken away. I know how that feels and I know how hard it is going forward. You have a beautiful place there and are blessed to have loved and been loved. Many never have what we had. I am thankful I had a husband that truly loved me and it seems you also had that. My faith in Jesus helps me because I believe we will someday be united again. This life is not the end. It still hurts, though, and the separation is very hard.

This was stunningly beautiful. I was a hospice nurse for 4 years and not all families can handle it but this family was brilliant!

I sobbed while watching this beautiful documentary, as it reminded me so poignantly of my own experience with the death of my father (also in 2016). I am also an only child (like Sky), and my mother and I supported my dad on his nine month journey with cancer until his death. So many of the scenes mirrored our experience. Steven reminded me of my dad- strong, wise, intelligent, kind, and so thoughtful of me and mom (he called us his "ladies"). There's something about two parents and an only child-- someone once said it is like a "three-legged stool". When dad left, mom and I leaned heavily upon each other. Now she is gone, and the grief lives with me daily.... I miss them so much....but there is also beauty and strength that rises up out of the ashes! Thank you for portraying this, and for the gift you have given to so many people with this film.

I found this documentary by Ellie Dylan , ON OUR OWN ISLAND,, by accident a few days ago..I found myself sharing it with all my family and friends. Now everyone out there. Heartbreaking yet Heartwarming. Anyone who has experienced true Love and loss MUST see this. However, kleenex is required. Thank you Ellie Dylan and her daughter for letting me experience a tough time in your life. Tears as I am writing this.

This documentary was recommended by Palm Springs Cindy, a YouTuber. Your story is the same one my father, mother, and I lived from 1987-1989. My father was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 1987, a few months after he and my mother returned from a trip to Asia. My dad was never sick a day in his life and he was a workaholic. I can't remember if colonoscopies were available to him in 1987, but we truly all believed he would survive. You and Steven had a beautiful love story, a lovely daughter and a fulfilling life. This profound documentary caused me to relive my dad's illness and his death. Steve, and all of you, were so brave. I told my dad I loved him the evening he passed away. He never walked me down the aisle when I got married and he never met his grandson. I still feel robbed--I was 26. My mother never remarried. This was very difficult to watch, but I love the strength you and Sky showed and how lovingly you took care of Steven. You are blessed to have had such a wonderful husband and he adored you both. Ellie, Steven is always with you and his love will comfort you always.

This documentary of your journey is all too familiar to me as I lost my husband 5 years ago to Lyme disease. His physical body deteriorated also, but his spirit stayed victorious as his faith in our Heavenly Father grew stronger and God gave us His peace. The only way through my storm was by Jesus' strength one step at a time. Thank you for sharing!❤

As a former Hospice Volunteer of over 20 years, this is the most moving and lovely film of death I have seen. To the Wife and Daughter you did well. It really is a privilege to be with your loved one when they pass from this world onto the the next. Spending time with the body after death to say goodbye is healing. Hugs
